Actually I was trying to be funny when I said "Cat ladies creep me out!". I apologize if you didn't think it was funny. I own 2 cats, heck one of my friends is a "cat lady".

At least be honest about it. You said more than that. You launched into a whole rant about obsession and cats.

If it makes you feel any better I cut off one of my fingers. Now I can't point. Or pick my nose. lol ^.^

I don't even know what to say now. I'm sure the mods will do whatever they need to do.

I found it. Its in a closed thread. I have no problem mentioning it since you think I was being mean.

I mentioned also in that thread that from a pychological point of view cat ladies often have deeper social issues and its why they end up collecting cats. I also mentioned that many cat ladies I've known turn their cat obsession into an Idol, and God says to have no idols before him.

I was simply being honest as I am to be as a christian. The post wasn't specificly about Zeener, although yes she is a cat lady so she probabyl felt attacked. If I offended you I am sorry. I could have lied but then I am sinning. Its up to you if you want to forgive me. I meant no harm.

And honestly, I think its great you help the cats. Knowing how many cats get euthanized every day makes me sad!

There is some profound wisdom there. Have been instructed similarly to praise The Lord with understanding when tempted by something sinful, then if every time the tempter comes a knocking, he hears a slew of praise for The Lord, what He has done, is doing, and has promised He will do...he (the devil), "high tails it out of there"...but know he'll seek another avenue, and ultimately that will cause us to cry out to The Lord even more, and thusly, all things work for our good !

But as one somewhat wise man to another - kidding is easily taken "the wrong way", while sincerity is more likely to be understood without causing any "undo" offense.

And all of God's people said - Thankyou Jesus for our wonderful Salvation !

I don't get how because you feel that it's a sin to "lie" that you feel you have to go the other direction and tell things that you believe are truths just because you feel that to not speak them would be a lie.

And I can't seem to bring myself to apologize for my outburst other than to say that my only mistake was making it personal when I should have said "behavior", not pointed the finger at someone personally. My bad. Not good. I apologize for that. But I do not apologize for being angry and displaying that anger.

By the way, I don't help cats. I have 1 cat who I feed and care for. You might have confused me with the woman on the couch.

You do realize that smoking literally kills you, right? Do you legitimately think that God wants you doing something that kills your body?

If you answer that question with anything but "no", I would ask that you evaluate your walk with Christ.

Moreover, with the common knowledge we possess, continuing on in this practice, (especially while trying to defend it with Scripture even), is indicative of careless indifference towards the health of one's own body (God's temple), and the health of the bodies of others (His temple as well).

And this I say, not to condemn, but to admonish and reprove...and before any start citing other sins as being just as bad or worse...let it be known that sins don't justify sin...that is to say two wrongs don't make a right.

And the first step of confessing the truth unto being cleansed by The Lord is admitting the error of our ways...for as long as one can continue to justify (in their own mind), what is clearly not godly, not good, they will remain unempowered to quit.

And since this is the "Advice Forum", my advice is quit trying to justify a gesture of theft from the careless indifference of the heart, and quit the indifference and the thievery in stead.

Without malice or malicious forethought these things are written seeking our corporate good.

If any need help in quitting, there is help to be found, for those who seek it.

I pray all our good requests are swiftly answered by God, Who Alone has the Power to save us through Christ. Amen.

Jesus said that if anyone wants to follow Me,then he has to deny himself and also He said that anyone who loves the world,the love of Father is not in that person ...

we are a stranger to this world and we got to act as an alien cos we are not of this world .. and whatever the world does we ought not to follow it.

If we do as the world does than we are not a christian (Christian means Jesus follower)

I like the simple and straight to the point post I would only add smoking shows lack of self control, all addictions would fall under the banner of self control, and self control is a biblical mandate.

When I left the faith many years ago and then returned, I had picked up the habit....now I have to let it go and it's not that easy...God has been patient with me, but the Holy Spirit keeps suggesting I quit. I stopped buying them already made and instead bought tobbaco and machine because I didn't want to be bad steward over my finances, but now I pray God will send a motivational help to get rid of it all together, not just to look perfect to the body of Christ, but because my body is the temple of the Lord and The Holy Spirit will save me from illness plus I won't feel condemnation. I have so much to learn since I have came back to the Lord and I just know He has been longsuffering with me...

"It is not what you put into your mouth which is sin..."

It can cause those weaker in faith to stumble, however so often good to hide it, of course.

If you believe it will harm you, then you should not.

It is not all that great to do, but there are times and places where it is useful, such as fitting in with more laypeople who we are to be in with to help and save.

But that is only for those strong in faith, though I do not know anyone weak enough to be challenged because someone smokes.

It is best also to be able to quit, so you are not mastered by anything but Christ. But we do also drink water, sleep, and eat food... and have various other natural desires and demands.

It's not always easy to surrender to the will of the most high, especially when your not clear what his will is. Matters are further complexed when conflicting opinions cloud a situation. If you trust your Maker, then rely on his word, and arrest any noise that speaks contrary in your heart or mind. Let all things be established by the mouth of two or three. I myself must agree with DreamerOfHearts, It is not what goes in the mouth that defiles the body, but that which comes out of the mouth. From the abundance of the heart comes words to the mouth. In essence it is what we believe in our heart that has the potential to defile the body. There is no poison unto a (true) disciple, therefore be so. Notwithstanding if you believe your Maker would have you stop smoking, then do so, there are so many ways now a days. But be sure it is his will, and not another which ever way you incline.

As for myself, I do not smoke (never did, and never plan to try), but I am not going to condemn another believer who has not yet felt the conviction. I mean, this is between the individual and God, and He works with everyone on different levels. It's also fine for people who don't smoke to feel glad they don't do it (if anything, for the sake of health) and to even give thanks to God for having chosen not to do it. However, it is not fine to have a puffed-up (pun unintended!), boastful attitude of rubbing it in other people's faces. We see first-hand of what Jesus thought of a Pharisee's self-righteous "prayer" in the Temple; it did not honor Him in the slightest. We can read of this entire account in Luke 18:9-14. And it also speaks of pride in Proverbs 16:18.

That being said, it is my personal opinion that people are really better off not smoking, or doing anything which would harm our temples in which God dwells. And it chokes me up quite severely to be around second-hand smoke for too long (that's why I try to keep my distance as best I can). I even know people who smoke, but some happen to be good friends of mine, and they are polite and gracious not to smoke when they are in my presence. Like I said, I will not condemn, and God speaks to all of us differently, and I have enough things to work on from my end to be pointing fingers. And conversely, there are a lot of non-Christians who don't smoke, but simply having chosen not to smoke is not going to get them to Heaven.

Anyway, I explained this the best I could. I only hope it wasn't inappropriate in any way, but merely seen as an honest effort to be helpful.

before i was saved i tried smoking ciggies for a few months, after a while it was just making me sick in the stomach, and i would just feel terrible for an hour or so after smoking, so i stopped.. Smoking was viewed differently only a few decades ago, i wonder what the christians at the time though of it?

I am a smoker and I constantly ask myself why some things are so hard for me to let go of that I have yet to do it. Smoking is something I know fails to please God yet I can't seem to convince myself to stop. I will do well with an attempt to quit for awhile then sure enough after a period of time I'm right back to it. And I hate being judged for smoking because I feel sure that though I may still be polluting my temple unnecissarily and God would prefer that I did not do this, I do not feel that the fact that I still smoke has any bearing on my love and conviction in Christ. I don't feel like that should be an ample cause for anyone to question that. And as everyone reminds folks of frequently....we are ALL sinners. we all have areas we struggle in and things that probably need a bit of correction. I just wonder why are some things SOOO much harder to overcome than others.
