  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

In the Episcopal Church's Book of Occasional Services there is a section on exorcism. It essentially states that it is the bishop's prerogative to investigate the case, and perform (or assign to a priest) the rite. The ritual, though, is not included in the book.

I have known an Episcopal priest (now deceased) who has exorcised a building.

My priest is an exorcist. He has studied a lot on the subject and is sensitive to spiritual beings. I have not seen him do a full on exorcism but I have seen him rebuke demons who were oppressing people and as he was a lay pastor he helped another priest try to exorcise a ghost from a building.

As far as I know he has been successful in his exorcisms

Yes. It is part of the ministry of healing and reconciliation.
It can be found as a minor form in the baptism liturgy but the major form can only be handled by a priest approved by the bishop. They also seek advice from doctors and psychiatrists in line with the recommendations of 'A time to heal' and Grove booklets on this subject.

Because this ministry is focused upon Christ and not the personality of the priest concerned and allows space for God to touch a situation in need of Gods touch it works.

I for one am very happy to have seen the policies and guidelines for healing in the CofE esp in regards to those living with mental illnesses.

Do anglican priest have the minister of exorcising devils of possesed?

Do the prayers of the priest have success and do they reject the evil being?

Anglican priests can exorcise, yes. Not all priests are happy to do this, but some are. I attended an exorcism with a priest fairly recently; he was asked to a particular house, and asked me to go with him, because he said he prefers to not go on his own, but to take a colleague or friend. He said it is to help confirm any presence or atmosphere.

He conducted a healing Mass, and then blessed each room in the house with holy water. Afterwards I gave the person who lived there a Benedict crucifix.
