Jesus said he came to bring division not peace. Luke 12:51 Jesus was without sin. 1 Peter 2:22 it is division that is contrary to Gods word that is a sin. Romans 16:17 says "mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them." The sin here are those who are teaching a false gospel and dividing the church. For example People who deny the trinity, or attack the deity of Christ, Works salvationists, baptize Jesus name only Acts 2:38 heretics come to mind as people who divide the church, they creep in teaching lies twist scripture.

but if teaching the truth and spreading Gods word causes division it is not a sin. Luke 12:51-53 There is a movement out there that shuts Christians spreading the gospel down by telling them to stop dividing people when evangelizing, and that it is a sin to divide anyone over anything. This is simply not true and I rebuke when I see it always because this is demonic, Satan tries everything he can to shut down the gospel the true message of Christ and we need to stand firm on Gods word.

Titus 3:9 is another passage you get hit with to promote ecumenicalism, but let’s look at the context here

5 not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

6 Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;

7 That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

8 This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men.

9 But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain.

This is talking about those who are saved by his mercy justified by his Grace, once we are saved we maintain our good works because these things are good and profitable unto men. not to earn our salvation. Same thing James 2 is talking about doing good works to be profitable unto men, not to be saved.

When Titus 3:9 says contentions and strivings of the law, they are unprofitable and vain, this is not talking about people who contend for the faith, preach the truth and spread the gospel to get people saved.

Titus 3:10 then says A man that is an heretick after the first and second admonition reject;

This verse doesn’t mean that anyone who divides someone with Gods word is a heretic, no it is saying avoid arguing with people who when you give them the truth of God once and a second time then reject them. Don’t waste time arguing with them It is unprofitable and vain. We should use our time wisely and not get caught up in arguing with people who reject the Bible word of God, if you show them twice and they reject then move on, because even if you show them 100 verses it will not do any good.

Of course the truth of God will divide people because this world is wicked, Gods word is sharp, exposes their sins, and worldly people don’t believe in Gods word so they yell out “stop dividing” to shut down Bible is false, beware of these gospel stoppers. Don’t let unsaved people pressure you into silence by taking the Bible our of context.

When you teach people the unpopular verses of the Bible, call out their sin, tell them to fear the Lord, Hell is a real and eternal place, etc. that is not unprofitable and vain dividing, that is standing on Gods word. If Gods word divides people that isn’t my problem. I am called to go into all the world and preach the gospel not to worry about everyones feelings and whether they personally accept these Bible verses or not. Gods word is perfect.

I understand what you’re saying.

I look at the entire scriptures when I’m trying to understand some concept. And even then, I don’t expect to understand it completely, maybe never. It seems like a verse I read today that I read last year provides me with more understanding today that I didn’t see before.

The Lord coming with a sword, or the Lord coming in the clouds; were concepts that made no sense to me at first. Today, my understanding is somewhat illuminated, but I’m quite sure will be illuminated much much more as time goes on.
Your post is more in relation to the sword, so I will tell you what I think:
The Word of the Lord speaks of a sword very very often.
The Word of the Lord IS the sword.
The Word of the Lord will cut deeply within us to remove our evils and falsities, just like a skilled surgeon cuts to remove the cancer in our body.
The Lord tells us that HE HAS ALL POWER, in heaven and earth.
So, that means we have NONE.
He will give us the power to conquer those pesky evils and false ideas within. ONLY within.
He does not give us power over anyone else, ever, for any reason.
We TAKE that power, at times. Falsely. Just like Peter, when he cut off the ear.

But, giving sight to the blind, healing the lame, etc. are the Lord’s work.
It’s His job, and His alone.
That’s why we have free will.
Free will for one purpose only.
To choose Him. FREELY

We all must open the door to Him. Freely. Without external help.
Then the Lord can come in and dine with us.
What a wonderful experience that is.
