I won't name the corps, but yesterday I tried to visit my most local Salvation Army. It was over an hour's drive (a long way for the UK!) I double checked the website before I left, but when I arrived, I was told there was no meeting this week.
The woman I spoke to was quite rude and unhelpful.
Maybe I don't matter. Bad behaviour on the part of Christians most likely won't put me off trying to engage. But what if I had been a seeker, new believer, or sensitive, vulnerable person?
It was very bad form, in my opinion.
(Incidentally, I'm disabled, and it was a real feat for me to manage to drive so far. After my unfortunate conversation with the Salvationist, I was shaking and crying.)
This seems to be a very common issue and not limited to the Salvation Army by any means.
Please, please update your websites!!!

What a terrible experience! That's not good. Christians should do better. What struck me was you saying you don't matter. Of course you do! In the eyes of our Lord you are extremely precious! God bless.

The Salvation Army relies a lot on volunteers. A lot. It's possible that that particular person was a volunteer and was overworked and did not act in a Christian way. It's up to the local leadership to vet their volunteers and it's up to the public to report bad behavior so they can correct it. It doesn't matter what church your go to, a lot of people can be overworked and can be tired and when someone comes up to the door for help, sometimes you're not at your best. That's not an excuse though.
