  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

i wanted to ask something about disabled people.
people with mental malfunctions and the likes.

politically correct modern culture and modern christianity says:
"love them , treat them as human beings with dignity".

but when i look into my bible, i see over and over again:
demons are the cause of this sickness.

what are your opinions ?

Mental illness and disabilities can be caused by many things including demon activity, as Scripture gives evidence. There are chemical imbalances in the brain that induce mental illness and can be corrected with medication. But there are also occassions of demon influence or demon possession. The believer can not be demon possessed since their body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. They can however have their thinking influenced by demons if they are quenching or grieving the Holy Spirit and not under his influence. As for ailments, what better way to validate a false teacher than for a demon to leave a person and for him to be healed. Miracles were designed by God originally to validate the messenger and Satan counterfeits all of God's systems. That is why we can not go by what we experience. An experience can be real but very false. If it does not line up with Scripture its false.

bluemarkus - I believe that my depression was caused by Satan, because it struck at a time when my husband was beginning to desire God. Satan used it to distract us and make my poor husband miserable. God used it for good as I sought treatment and then when my mind cleared, I sought Him! And he found me!

I would suggest anyone with mental problems, seek God first for healing. He is faithful to respond!

Well, Scripture states that the specific cases mentioned were caused by demons, but never attributes ALL mental illness as a whole to demon possession.

I'd say mental afflictions could be caused physically or demonically - have to go by a case-by-case basis.

i believe: our modern technology enables us to manipulate our bodily functions through invasive surgery (physical), or on a chemical level.
but from a biblical perspective, there are still spiritual forces behind all that that are not effected thereby...
isn´t the bible clear that ALL sickness is caused by demonic activity ?

look at your doctor´s or paramedic´s nametag, there is a sign on it with a staff and one or two snakes wrapped around. this used to be the greek god of healing "asclepios". i believe a lot of our modern technology is rooted in alchemy and witchcraft and human pride. but that´s not the point here...

by the way, my dad is a doc, my mum a nurse, and i studied medicine for 1 semester :).

an example:

my uncle christian is about 40 years old. he is one of 8 children, of whom are 2 mentally disabled, handicapped. they cannot get married, not run their own house, they work under supervision in a special place, they pay less on public transport, they still live with their parents who are both over 75 yrs of age.

now our culture says:

this is a severe mental damage, the result of an infection he had as a child. there´s nothing we can do. they gotta grin and bear it.

but did not Jesus heal a blind man who had been blind from birth ?
are these not demons who have taken hold of a flawless person
and caused a malfunction ? Can an anointed man of god not heal him if there is enough faith ? I believe he can be healed !

bluemarkus - I agree about the healing. It can be done to anyone through anyone who has faith in the ability and desire of God to heal. And I believe it could well be demons, but until the situation which caused the demons is fixed, the problem cannot be healed! Remember the example of Jesus - about how a demon is removed from a person and the Holy Spirit does not replace it - the person is worse off than before. :(

Please consider John 9

1As He passed by, He saw a man blind from birth. 2And His disciples asked Him, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he would be born blind?"
3Jesus answered, "It was neither that this man sinned, nor his parents; but it was so that the works of God might be displayed in him.

We live in a fallen world and all humans and nature suffer because of it. It rains on the just and the unjust or the believer and the unbeliever. God works all things to his purpose, even illness and disability.

What you have described does not sound like demon possession.

And your idea about how healing worked is false. Christ and the Apostles healed regardless of whether people had faith or not and they healed without even being present on many occassions.

There have been a number of cases in the last few years where people, some children have been murdered by family members claiming to be attempting to exorcise demons. These people claimed to be Christians. It was they themselves that were under demon influence or possession and induced to kill. No wonder the world thinks religious people are nuts.

You are on dangerous ground.

Interesting and I can see why you come
to this conclusion but...

I have not taken care of myself, I've eaten
food that is mostly acidic, without nutritional
value, drank cappachino daily for a few years and
on and on and so forth.
My point is this, I have caused damage to
my body that if I were to get some diseases
right now, I would very much be responsible
for them.
Galatians 6:7-8
7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked:
for whatsoever a man soweth,
that shall he also reap.
8 For he that soweth to his flesh
shall of the flesh reap corruption...

Now on the other hand.
Why would we ignore this?
It's Bible.

Mark 9:25
25 When Jesus saw that the people came running together,
he rebuked the foul spirit,
saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit,
I charge thee, come out of him,
and enter no more into him.

Matthew 17:15-18
15 Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatick,
and sore vexed: for ofttimes he falleth into the fire,
and oft into the water.
16 And I brought him to thy disciples,
and they could not cure him.
17 Then Jesus answered and said,
O faithless and perverse generation,
how long shall I be with you?
how long shall I suffer you?
bring him hither to me.
18 And Jesus rebuked the devil;
and he departed out of him:
and the child was cured from that very hour.

look at your doctor´s or paramedic´s nametag, there is a sign on it with a staff and one or two snakes wrapped around. this used to be the greek god of healing "asclepios". i believe a lot of our modern technology is rooted in alchemy and witchcraft and human pride. but that´s not the point here...
You may have a point here as well, but
we do still need medical docs sometimes
when we let things get out of hand for
instance and need something cut out.
Or when we need something stitched etc.

Ultimately, we should take responsibility
for our own health.
The pharmaceutical companies may not have
our best interest at heart.

Think about it, and I am sorry to say this to the
son of a doctor,
normally if you go to the doc for a problem,
he will either cut, or prescribe drugs,
often treating the symptom rather
than the cause. I understand some
of the reasons but still...

by the way, my dad is a doc, my mum a nurse, and i studied medicine for 1 semester :)

I highly recommend a book I read many
years ago, Spiritual Warfare for the Wounded,
It was written by a Doctor who was having
the same questions as you are now.
Excellent book too, in that it taught me
about spiritual warfare.
I learned so much that I loaned it out and
lost it.
You can order it used I believe, at Amazon.

And I'm guessing you've read A Cure for Cancer
(free to read online) by Dr Kelly,
which many Dr's would call a quack because he heals the natural way with out using cutting or chemotherapy.
He seems to have an excellent plan, and He's
a Christian!

I could really go on all day
about this subject, so I will
stop for now.

No the Bible is clear that ALL sickness is a result of the fall and thereby leaves the oppotunity for the enemy to compound or even initiate a problem.

But certainly when I have a cold . . . that I got from handling my 7 mo. old child whose immune system is getting used to a fallen and depraved world . . . it is not some demon.

Demons can and do cause and compound sickness . . . but the real source is the entrance of sin into the world making us susceptible to the ails of our woes.

this is not canonical writ, but i agree with the author that the doctor should have its appropriate place in the puzzle that is humanity.

My son, when you are ill, delay not,
but pray to God who will heal you:
flee wickedness; let your hands be just,
cleanse your heart of every sin;
offer your sweet-smelling oblation and petition,
a rich offering according to your means.
Then give the doctor his place
lest he leave; for you need him too.
There are times that give him an advantage,
and he too beseeches God
that his diagnosis may be correct
and his treatment bring about a cure.
He who is a sinner toward his Maker
will be defiant toward the doctor.
