Trump stated that the US were the only country with a law granting citizenship to every baby born in the country.

Well, when I heard that news I instantly recollected that pair of missionaries, who went to South America, but could not enter Brazil, the country where God had called them to serve him.

Then, in a flight from Argentina (?) to Europe, the woman suddenly got her baby in the aircraft. They were informed that the baby was born when while the aircraft was in Brazilian air space, and hence they had the opportunity to chose Brazil citizenship for their baby (they didn't know it in advance, they had not expected the pregnancy would end that day). So now they had the right to enter Brazil.

While I still remembered that case, I heard the news speaker that there are about 30 countries in the world with such a law, including Canada.

And now I wonder whether Trump is so dump not to know this, or whether he lied on purpose.

Yes Trump is "dump" like a fox.

Trump's lying is well documented. This is just another example of his lying. Thirty other countries including Canada and Mexico have birthright citizenship.

They aren't the countries that Trump likes. He likes the European and Asian countries birth right laws.

I don't remember the numbers from last time I checked....

But I do remember it being fairly rare amongst first world nations. Most European nations require at least one parent to already be a citizen. Regardless, I'm pretty sure it's in the Constitution and that the Constitution is rather clear on the topic. That said...

I'd totally be in favor of amending the Constitution on this point. Just as I don't believe our founders envisioned that one dsy we would have guns that could spit out 700 rounds a minute or tear off a man's head from a mile away....I don't think they imagined hundreds of thousands of people swarming across the border so they can drop a child on US soil and weasel their way into the system. We should amend the Constitution to fix this problem.

Neither didn't they envision the possibility that a person may travel from Georgia to Connecticut in one day, or a society so fragmented that many people don't know who is living three floors above them in the same house. There are plenty of reasons to demand the right to carry firearms should be the exception and not the rule.

It's possible that he didn't know, but we're left with the philosophical Trump question: is it a lie if he simply doesn't care whether it's true or not?

We know poor Donald makes up "facts" all the time because he said so, on camera, which substantiated ample evidence, but, at the same time, he has demonstrated appalling ignorance and extreme disinterest in reality-based facts (most particularly when they go against his self-interests).
