Did Jesus experience guilt?

Hello,
I was wondering if Jesus ever expirienced guilt. Personally, I don't think He could have, I mean, he never sinned, so how could He feel guilt? I asked my friend this awhile back, and she agreed with me, then the next day seemed mad that I even thought to question, she said that of course He did, because He died on the cross for our sin, but I figure Jesus was never the guilty party. So, I don't think He could have known what guilt is like.

At the very moment God the Father laid the sin guilt of the entire world (past, present, and future) upon His Son on the cross, I believe Jesus felt His Father's shame, and to an extent the guilt that went along with the shame. Jesus never sinned and would have never experienced guilt like you and I, but when he paid OUR price and endured His father's wrath (justice) for sin, He must have experienced the feeling we experience when we become aware of our guilt. Being fully man and seeing His Father turn His back on Him had to hurt!

Hello Starbucksman,
I agree, I bet it was the most dismal moment to ever be experienced by Jesus. I think I agree too that He did experience a form of guilt like you say because of this, but still would not be the same type as if say He Himself had commited the act and thus felt guilty.

He bore our punishment and guilt, but did not do anything to deserve the punishment. The light chastisement of guilt or conviction is nothing in comparison to the pain of the flagellum, with its pieces of iron and glass tied to it that rip the flesh to the bone.

I don't think that he felt guilt really...but he could have felt a massive amount for those sins if he did feel guilt. I believe that is one question that you'll have to wait until death to discover, and by then you won't care.

I don't know if Jesus experienced guilt or not but I do know that He experienced a whole range of emotions in His humanity.

Some of you guys say "no", so absolutely, do you think it would be a bad thing if He did?

Yes that would be a bad thing, because technically He could of sinned and the human race would be in a world of hurt. Listen, guilt is a sin. But thank God for His plan of salvation and grace.

Heb. 12:2 Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

How can God sin ?? Yes, He was the God/man within the Person of Jesus but many would seriously doubt that Jesus could have sinned. That He was tempted was as a result of Him being in human form and being fully human YET HE WAS STILL the Lord God enfleshed. If one holds to the point that Jesus could have sinned would be to dwell more on His humanity rather than the fact that He was, all at the same time, 100% God AND man.

Scriptural backing -

James 1:13-15 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

Get that, God CAN'T be tempted with (to do) evil. And since Jesus was sinless and had no weaknesses in regards to the sinful nature, according to the James passage, He really couldn't be tempted to do sin since He was not ruled by the lust of the flesh/lust of the eyes/pride of life (what Eve was tempted with by Satan in the Garden of Eden) Yes, Satan tempted him but because he has limited knowledge/understanding, he believed Jesus could have sinned, albeit a remote possibility, because He was in human form and experienced human frailty (of body but never of soul/Spirit);)

And, i disagree on guilt being a sin - feeling guilt is the natural result of our sin. Our conscience convicts us of doing what we know deep down inside is not right - even Christians feel guilt which comes from our understanding of what God's Word says we should/shouldn't do and our conscience in concert. Only once we repent do we lose the guilty feeling (or we should);)

Wow I don't know how you say that Jesus was not tempted. The Bible is very clear that He was. In Hebrews 4:15 it says "For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin."
And in Matthew 4:1-11 is the story of Him being tempted by satan himself. But that He can be tempted is not a sin, just an avenue for you or I to commit a sin. We must choose as Jesus did, to use the Word againt him.

Guilt (or "regret") is not a feeling dependent upon sin. We feel regret for other reasons than being smacktards.

Jesus felt deep regret and wept, when he saw the mourning of Mary and Martha for their dead brother.

All of our emotions can come from good and be supplemental to the good within us. All of our emotions can come from evil and be supplemental to the evil within us. Trust the example of Jesus.

I did NOT say that - this is what i said

My point was to show that temptation of Jesus (being God) was pointless on Satan's part because Jesus (being God) hated sin with all His Being and as God could not have sinned, regardless of Him being man as well. Even in His flesh as frail man, He prayed to the Father that the Cup might pass from Him, His nature recoiled from the thought of becoming sin but He resigned Himself willingly out of love for His Father and us His creation !!!
