Ok...these things have been popping up like mushrooms in the past couple of seasons. I figure its time toset up a thread just to keep track of the bloody things, what they were intended for, and what their current status is.

Station-----------Purpose------------------------------- Status

Arrow------------ Storage?------------------------------ Abandoned

Staff------------- Medical------------------------- Still used as medical station, relay point

Swan-------------Electromagnetic Research?-----operated in clandestine mode, destroyed

Pearl--------------Monitoring & Psychological-----visited, minor use

Hydra ------------Aquatic/biological research-----still in active use

Looking Glass------Underwater research?Com?-----abandoned and partly flooded

Flame -------------External communications-------destroyed

Barracks-----------Primary living quarters-------------still in use

Tempest-----------Power station-------------------- still in use, largely automated

Radio Tower-------Transmitter--------------------functioning but ignored

Orchid?------------Time travel?----------------------?

I'm not sure if the Barracks and Radio Tower count as actual 'stations' or not. The Orchid might not exist. But adding them all up, I come up with eleven Dharma 'stations' on the island. Discounting the Barracks and the radio tower, but including the Orchid, that would make nine actual 'stations'.

Most of the stations seem oriented towards medical/biological research, with a secondary emphasis on communications. Psychology and the physical sciences seem under represented...which makes me wonder if there are more stations dedicated to such out there.

The Wikipedia page on the Dharma Initiative has some really interesting details on the Stations.

I still maintain that there's a Cerberus Station which controls the Monster/Security system.

Here's the entry for the Smoke Monster

I just read this tidbit which is what I've thought since Locke saw the map on the Swan ceiling.
In January 2007, producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse asked fans on Yahoo! Answers what they thought the monster was. They later picked their "favorite answer... not that it's the right answer." The response they chose suggested that the monster was originally an advanced security system designed to frighten the participants of the DHARMA experiments with smoke and loud noises to prevent them from wandering outside of their hatches. However, the electromagnetic force of the island mutated it (in the same way that Desmond experienced time travel and can see the future after his exposure) and made it malevolent and able to physically interact with things. The respondent also theorised that the monster could be "turned off" if the survivors found a control room for it. The producers restated that the answer could be "somewhat right, totally right - or completely off-base", but they thought it was "very cool and intriguing."

That's very cool about the monster/security system. Glad you're back posting again, US

that list was kinda confusing (did you paste it from a table?)
I tried making my own table. I fixed it to make it a bit more readable, anyhow.

What gets me, is that when you lay this out, is not so much what is there, but rather what is missing. Remember the orientation film(s)? Everything they were researching should have had at least one station dedicated to that task. Yet several fields of study do not appear to be represented by any of the known stations.
