I was reading in Leviticus last night, second to last chapter, and it talked about devoted to destrution.....What does that meen?

In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The Hebrew word, חרם, is unclear. It appears to be a term referring to a particular practice in "holy warfare," -- of destroying everything and everyone: taking no spoils. It used to be called "the ban."

I agree with justified.
(Just remember that God IS good and forgiving, even though he seems angry and revenge-seeking in the old testament.. There are also a lot about sacrifices to restore the relationship between the humans and God - Jesus is the complete, final sacrifice.. You probably already knew that, but I just wanted to make shore, since some people don't remember that, but are becoming confused while reading , for example, Leviticus).

That which is devoted to God is for God's purposes. Thus, that object was banned because God had determined that it should be destroyed. To "use the object" that was banned was to come under God's condemnation.
