  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I thought this was interesting:

http://www.offthegridnews.com/how-to-2/how-to-desalinate-water-during-a-crisis/

I found it after reading this:

http://www.offthegridnews.com/current-events/the-worlds-water-shortage-is-far-worse-than-we-thought/

I am not in an area that has a water problem but my daughters are.
Of course, my husband's old stomping grounds has water - but it is poisoned (Flint). Other places in the US have lead pipes.

Anyway, if there is a big issue, it would help to know how to desalinate ocean water.

Good articles. We have a weekend house on a river that has brackish water; I will definitely try these out when the it warms up a bit, and I'll share my results.

The conundrum we have with food storage is how much freeze dried and dehydrated can you store, since you need enough water to rehydrate it.

yeah i have been wondering how much can a water desalinater take before it is destroyed by repeated use since salt is harsh on metal. I suppose you could also use the salt after separating it from the water.

Cisterns, gutters, rain fall?
We have that planned. Did you know that it is illegal in some places to collect gutter water?

No I didn't. But I can understand why. Since birds don't honor the no fly zones.
LOL.... flies do not honor the no fly zone.

I can't believe that a Government would impose a tax on its people because it rained on their property.
Welcome to the Peoples' Democratic Republic of Maryland.

It is mind boggling that there is a tax on rain. I live in a house where my water is all from rain - no connection to city water. Most folks here (Belize) have some kind of cistern or buy a 1000 gallon tank and keep that as back up. The local town only has water 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours at night.
