• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

blueiverson,

I can speak from personal experience, and I know exactly where you're at. Let me state several things...

1) Yes, a Christain can certainly be depressed
2) Yes, people who do not understand the depths of depression do not fully understand how hopeless you can feel
3) There IS something wrong with you...you're depressed! Nothing to be ashamed of, but remember one thing...God NEVER wants us to be depressed, and it IS curable. It can be a long, hard road, but you must decide that you are going to put your feet on that road.
4) When in the worst moments, remember this: 1 Corinthians 10: "No temptation has seized you except what is common to man (others have gone through the same pain before you). And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.
5) and this...John 16:33, where Jesus says; "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble (the world has been wounded from sin). But take heart (hope is there for those who ask)! I have overcome the world (and who may stand against God)."

Do not despair. Although some may not understand your pain, God does. God is the one who can heal you. I would suggest that you find Christian counselers in your church and/or area. Do not be afraid of what others may think...we are talking about YOUR life here, not theirs. As well, do not listen when the devil whispers "there is something wrong with you". Many Christians have cried tears of pain before you, many will after. However, the devil does not want you to know that your tribulations are curable. Ignore him. He is wrong, after all, when has he been truthful?

Cheers & God Bless!

In many cases depression can also be a genetic factor....!! My brother and I have to take medications to even out the intenstities of depression while the root problems are worked out....!! This has been the case with family members before us too. In my case it is a combination of genetics and past decisions. Depression is a reality for millions of people christian or non christian. Having Christ to lead your path gives hope and meaning to life which in turn lessons the intensity of deppressive feelings.
