• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

My church is starting a new depression support group in addition to some of the other support groups they already have running. I'm wondering if anybody here has experience with groups like this and has any stories or advice for a group like this.

Generally, it will turn out to be a sharing and community-based group, and though it'll be loosely lead, the leaders are also struggling. We have some professional therapists in the church who give advice, but it's not meant to be professional therapy -- but close community building within those struggling with specific problems in the church.

The church is the Twin Cities in Minnesota. If any of YOU are interested in attending, feel free to look up the Refuge at the church's website: http://www.whchurch.org However, given that we're all over the world, I suppose that's a bit of a long shot.

Get a hold of the book called "Undoing Depression" by Richard O'Connor....this addresses many good points of healing depression and starting support groups...have someone who is leading the group read this book if not everyone in the group. My support group is going to go through the whole book together.

Also...anyone near Lebanon PA...I'm starting a support group too, PM me if you are close by and want to come by.

Its always good to have others you can relate to cause you share in the same problems so there is no judgements about health conditions as every one is in the same boat, it takes away the lonelyness to know that your not the only one going through the same issues.

The company of brothers and sisters in God will always be of good will, I am glad your church is provideing this help and wish you and your church the very best.
