Depression and Christmas

I was just wondering how other people with depression deal with the Christmas season. I used to LOVE this time of year and doing Christmas-related things. But ever since I started struggling with depression two years ago, it's been harder for me to get into the Christmas spirit every year. So far this year, I haven't even been into Christmas music much. I decorated the house but I haven't been looking forward to my usual Christmas activities as much as usual.

Sounds like an excellent plan. Nothing beats depression more than helping those less fortunate than you.

I just have to suffer til it's over, unfortunately...nothing really helps me feel better when holidays come around.

I'm pretty much checked out of the world from Halloween until Valentine's Day. Holidays have always been a very unhappy time for me. The way I manage them is to ignore them. I treat them like any normal day on the calendar. This year, Christmas falls on a Wednesday, and I'm going to go into the office on that day to get some work done. I'll have the entire office to myself, so I can wear one of my old ratty band t-shirts, play TOOL as loud as I want while I work, and get done what I want to get done on a Wednesday.

Holidays only have meaning that you assign to them

while waiting to adopt, by the time the fourth Christmas was approaching and no word yet, couldn't help but feel down

decided to have company over, both sides of family
took me three months to get ready-cleaning & decorating but did go overboard

getting ready kept me busy & then when the house was all decorated & company arrived, it picked me up (somewhat)
