• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I know I'm not the only one here who has body image issues that lower self-esteem and mood. This thread is for venting, for discussing, for giving and receiving support in those struggles.

I always hated my small skeleton frame and lack of muscles.

I'm pretty much looked at as dirt to many people.

What's worse is having to deal with the hypocritical body image campaigns.

I find that we must do our best to stay healthy, have a healthy body, but we've got to keep in mind that the cultural standards are a lie. We don't have to let the culture drag us around by our noses. We can't let them pigeon hole us. We don't have to. God says we are wonderfully made. Let's do the best we can with what He gave us and not let ideas others come up with from their egos and marketing ruin our self image, our day, or our lives.

I've dealt with body image issues, as well as having dealt with an eating disorder during my teenage years. Like miss-a says, we are fearfully and wonderfully made, and the myth of cultural standards are useless compared to God's design. 1 Sam 16:7's mention of "man looks on the outward appearance but the Lord looks on the heart" was a huge inspiration in learning how to love my body regardless of what anyone else might say or think.

I share the struggle. Honestly, I have no accurate idea what I look like. Whether I'm looking in a mirror or at myself in a photo or video, all I'm capable of seeing is rolls and rolls of fat. It's been that way since third grade, when early puberty set in. My body image has remained unchanged across the years, although obviously I cannot look the same as I did then. I look at my wedding photo from almost eight years ago, when mathematically I know I was a good forty or fifty pounds heavier than I am now, but I cannot for the life of me see a difference in my body size. There *has* to be one, logically, but I can't see it. I'm sure if I put my wedding dress on now, it would hang on me like a kimono, but I still can't see a change.
