• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. I was wondering who all here has started to feel depressed over their OCD? I think that depression and OCD must be linked. Lately, my OCD has been worse than ever and I've really started to feel depressed over it. It's not a good feeling at all. It's like a double whammy. I have no (other) reason to be depressed and so I think it's just the subsequent fallout of my OCD. Anyone else relate?

Yes I get OCD alot too

Psalm 34:19 "A righteous man may have many troubles, but the LORD delivers him from them all;"

Job 5:18 "For he wounds, but he also binds up; he injures, but his hands also heal."

Job 36:5 "God is mighty, but does not despise men; he is mighty, and firm in his purpose."

God did not make you to see how miserable you could be, God made all life and all life matters to him, everyone who calls on the name of God will be saved

Job 34:19 "who shows no partiality to princes and does not favor the rich over the poor, for they are all the work of his hands?"

Ezekiel 18:20 "The soul who sins is the one who will die. The son will not share the guilt of the father, nor will the father share the guilt of the son. The righteousness of the righteous man will be credited to him, and the wickedness of the wicked will be charged against him."

Ezekiel 18:21 "But if a wicked man turns away from all the sins he has committed and keeps all my decrees and does what is just and right, he will surely live; he will not die."

Job 33:28 "He redeemed my soul from going down to the pit, and I will live to enjoy the light."

Job 33:29 "God does all these things to a man--twice, even three times--"

Your problem seems sort of vague, obsession compulsion disorder and you say you have no other reason to be depressed. You need God because God created the universe and knows everything, God is able to see all

John 16:30 "Now we can see that you know all things and that you do not even need to have anyone ask you questions. This makes us believe that you came from God."

Isaiah 49:1 "Listen to me, you islands; hear this, you distant nations: Before I was born the LORD called me; from my birth he has made mention of my name."

God made everybody very special and formed them in his image and likeness.

Genesis 1:27 "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them."

I will pray for you but you need to ask God for help with your OCD, God is real and so is the Holy Spirit and heaven. It is not some lie that people had made up, you can really find peace by trusting in Jesus Christ, you can find peace in your life this way, I know because it is true in my life and it is true for other peoples lives, they have testimonies so please do not give up because you can be healed of the OCD.

Matthew 6:34 "Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."

Worrying and freaking out won't help you

Psalm 37:8 "Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret--it leads only to evil."

When people work themselves into a frenzy then can drive themselves insane and hurt themselves, this is bad. If you feel pent up try to find constructive outlets such as physical exercise or mental exercise, reading the Bible or praying or just taking a walk to calm down and relieve your tensions.

Good luck in managing this, God bless you.

I know what you are saying. I think we want to be healed so badly, and when we continue having the same struggles day after day after day, it wears us down emotionally, and we begin to lose hope. But we must remember that there is always hope in God because God always keeps His promises. He began a work in you, and He will continue it to completion until the day of Christ. You have this promise, and you have to claim it for yourself because the enemy wants you to give up. And let's face it, giving up is such a temptation at times, isn't it? When you are so weary. And depression just saps out of you any bit of physical and emotional energy you have...a very effective tool of the enemy. I have seen many of your posts Canamer, and I am convinced that the Lord has His hands wrapped tightly around you in such a way that the enemy is...well just seriously ticked. He wants you in the darkness, and God is pulling you into the light. He's gonna pull out all the tricks and see if any of it works. Hold onto God. He's bringing you up into the light, but His work is slow. Don't lose hope during the wait. The wait is where you grow. And I know this is what you want. I know you have a heart for God and that you will not give up the fight. And it IS a fight, but a fight that only He can win. So release yourself into His loving care and trust not only that He will accomplish His purpose in you, but trust in the way that He chooses to do it. I will continue to pray for you. God Bless:)

Ah...but don't you see? God is the one who is tying your throwing arm behind your back. Why? Because He wants to show you what happens when He becomes your throwing arm for you. Don't worry about what you will do or what your life will amount to. You'll never be enough anyway, but you are EVERYTHING because of Him. So let God decide where he takes you from here, even if it seems insignificant to you. Nothing God does is ever insignificant. Your honesty and compassion have already touched countless lives through this forum. It's like a domino effect. You have had more of an impact for His kingdom already than you realize. Just release yourself to Him, Canamer, completely. God will make beauty from your ashes, the kind that couldn't have happened otherwise. Aren't you the one who said that because of your weakness, God has developed a compassion in you that could not have come to you otherwise? He certainly has...I sensed it in you from the beginning. I predict that through your pain, God will bring others to healing and has already begun doing that, in small and subtle ways, but that is how He works, in small and subtle ways. Your suffering will bring hope to others because you will not give up, and because of that, God will use your life as a platform for his purposes, and that is to bring others, hurting people who need Him, to the cross. In my eyes, you are as successful as anyone else for the kingdom of Christ because you have humbled yourself into his loving arms and said "I am useless, so God, use me!" I see His strength in you, and it is a beautiful thing.

Hi Canamer,
Yes, depression can accompany OCD and all anxiety disorders that reach debilitating levels. I've experienced that too. It is like a double whammy. You lose interest in all the things that you may have previously enjoyed. The good news is that once the Anxiety is managed the depression also lifts.
As far as healing goes, God can certainly heal any or all disease or disorder. But in my case He has , for now, chosen to allow me to keep my "thorn" and to show me how to walk IN and through it. I'm not saying that I've had to live out my entire life with the severely debilitating level of OCD as it has waxed and waned over the years. What I am saying is that God is not impeded by OCD and for me it has been the very tool that He has employed in order to strengthen my faith in Him. I'm not speaking here of the kind of easy faith where you FEEL filled overflowing with fuzzy warm faith and peace but rather the kind of faith that says, "even if I never feel another moment of comfort regarding my standing with Christ, I will serve Him, I will follow Him, I will obey Him, I will worship Him and lift up His name wherever and whenever I can."
Meanwhile, there is so much practical help for this disorder that should be applied to it. There are meds., ERP, practical lifestyle changes etc., and we need to pursue and learn to use these things in a responsible way- just like we would for any other health problem we encounter. I am praying for you that God would guide you in and through this trial. "Satan means it for evil, but God has meant it for your good." "But God". Think of that - satan can never interfere with God's loving intentions for His children. He is already defeated and we need to quit focusing on him and "fix our eyes on Jesus the author and finisher of our faith." So often when I can't feel my faith I have acknowledged His voice saying to me; "Mitzi faith is not founded in who you are but in all that I AM."
Hold fast to Him. OCD cannot rob you of that choice. "I will bless the Lord at all times, His praise shall continually be in my mouth."

I do appreciate your reply. However, I want to be clear about something. I DO know Jesus - personally. For whatever reason, he hasn't seen fit to heal me of my OCD (at least yet), as is the case with many others around here (they too are waiting). In the meantime, I'm just trying to do the best I can.

Remember the thorn in the Flesh that was given to Paul to keep him humble? That always helps me to cope with ocd and depression knowing that its their for a reason.

I looked at this in the last couple of weeks. I asked God to remove my OCD so many times, and then I remember what Paul asked and God told him that His Grace is sufficient.

I didn't want to start a new thread about this, and I saw this so I just added my comment to this. I too feel extremely depressed over my OCD and I feel that I've been defeated in the last couple of weeks and I really don't know what else to do.

Mine is a little different than the blasphemy against the holy spirit...I really sometimes get clausterphobic when I'm backed in the corner with my O. Thoughts and I get fearful that I won't be able to back away from the C. Rituals. It's hard to explain unless you know what I struggle with. Anyways! YES, I get depressed.

Extreme spiritual fearfulness (over blasphemy & going to hell) & doubting (even while you are pursing God, reading his word, and in prayer)are forms of spiritual OCD. They and other racing negative fearful thoughts are the result of a vitamin deficiency which causes a chemical imbalance in the brain and is treatable with extreme daily doses of vitamines. If you or a loved one experience extreme spiritual fearfulness, OCD or schizophrenia tendancies (paranoia, visual hallucinations, hearing voices), depression, insomnia, racing thoughts, panic attacks, anxiety, other mental distresses, do yourself a favor and reasearch depression, schizophrenia, OCD vitamin and orthomolecular therapy and the work of a canadian doctor named Abram Hoffer. Basically he developed a treatment (that truly WORKS) with Vitamines. It's a minimal cost to incur to invest in your physical and mental AND SPIRITUAL wellness. I am not peddling anyone's vitamines. You can get any brand at Walmart or a grocery store or a vitamine store on line. These Vitamin supplements have been a tremendous help to my relative and myself who continue to experience greater and greater healing each day that we continue with this vitamine therapy. Relief comes within the first couple of days and continues as you continue to take the vitamine supplements. You must take them for the rest of your life or risk a relapse.

1000 mg niacian daily (get a combination of flush-free and regular niacin) the regular will cause you to flush--(you will get red and hot but this means it is working--the longer it takes you to flush the more you needed it. the redness goes away in about 15 minutes. The flush-free niacin will not make you flush. If you start to feel nauceaous, lower the dosage or skip a day altogether with it, then take a "normal" dosage, like 100-500 mg. An extremely high dose like 1000-2000 is for when things get extremely uncontrollable and it should only be temporary. It's too much to take regularly. After a day or two you could start to feel naucious from that much, but it will jumpstart the seratonin in your brain to help you relax and control your thoughts, then you can lower it to 500.

2000-3000 mg Vitamine C take 1000 mg 3x a day
HTP5 - At least 100 mg daily
Vitamine B 8 - (inisitol) - 10-18g per day depending on severity of your OCD (it's alot but take it)
Vitamine B combo vitamine 2 or 3 per day (with B1, B6, B12)

Essential Omega Fats (with fish oil and flax) take 2-3 per day.

Results will be notable within a day or two, with the greatest results starting at around 6 weeks of taking these.

Swear off all junk food, all artificial sweetners, all refined white sugar products, all alcohol, eat GOOD NUTRITIOUS FOOD, fresh and frozen vegetables, fruits, unsweetned fruit juice, filtered water or spring water, cut down on caffeine. Going gluetin free is also good but it's not necessary for ever

Please research these things on line yourself as I am not allowed to post URLs on this site. I would have

Please, also understand that you must honor Jesus Christ and trust his shed blood and ressurection fully for salvation. Read the word daily and pray, and live according to biblical principals and this along with proper nutrition, will eliminate spiritual OCD and extreme spiritual fearfulness
