  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Denying Jesus

Hi all,
I am coming to ask for help with a problem I'm having. Although when I am around one or two people I am not afraid to say I am a Christian, but it seems I deny Jesus when there is a group of kids around. It's not that I'm saying I am not a Christian, I will just deny things like listening to Christian music. Also, my biggest problem is when people say things like "How do you do it man? Your so good at..." I don't say God helps me do it.

So, really just wondering what steps I can take to not be afraid of telling others I am Christian and do "Christian things". I thought I could start by being completely open about my relationship with Jesus around my family. Tell me what you think...

I was exactly like you last year (I'm a 1-year old Christian as of today, BTW). I listened to Christian music silently, and told no one I believed in Jesus or was a child of God. It may have also been because of my lack of basic biblical teaching, but ever since I have developed a courage (through prayer) and I carry my Bible around everywhere, read it at lunch and in class, and I talk to people constantly about Christianity and Jesus. It's amazing how many people need to hear the true words of God about the Word of God instead of the propaganda they may have been indoctrinated by.

Basically, I encourage you to bring your Bible to school and read it everyday. If you don't know what to read, focus on the New Testament, and mainly the gospels and the letters of Paul. Pray constantly, silently in your head before you get to school or any social event, and as you talk to people, pray that you won't be too meek. Also, remember to constantly focus on others and not yourself. I.E, don't just read the Bible to show off your "knowledge," merely read it to gain new insight and sheer adoration for God's revelations and mercy. If a person asks you questions, you should/could respond to them nicely and with biblical confidence. If you have completely no idea, or think your answer conflicts with Scripture, go home and research it and then share your findings. I know it sounds very generic and you may have heard these, so basically all you have to do is:

  • Study Scripture (Bible)
  • Pray constantly and with passion
  • Answer questions if necessary
  • Research new questions
  • Help others to read the Bible, pray, and submit their lives to God's lead
  • Repeat

Peace. :prayer:

Dare yourself to speak about Jesus once; after that initial wall of doubt it gets substantial easier.

I used to be afraid of the same thing but I dared myself to be outgoing about it and it has gotten to the point now where I have Jesus's name or a cross on a least one piece of a clothing I wear each day.

My athletics heat-top(keeps your arms and torso warm) had Jesus written in big yellow letters with a cross which I wear each week.

THE POINT being that you need to just dare yourself and if you leave it then it will only get harder.

What I am going to say might sound harsh, but I say it with a loving heart and if I could hug you, dear brother, while saying this to you I would. Grace to you in the name of Christ Jesus who bore the condemnation we deserve.

There is no reason why a true Christian would be ashamed of Jesus. If you are scared to say you are a Christian, you are failing to do what even "baby Christians" could do in the early church. The early Christians were threatened with death and torture, but they still confessed that Jesus is Lord (which is the real meaning to Romans 10:9 -- which is not an act that saves you but an act that reveals God's work in you).

If Christ is working in you, you will abide in His Word and in prayer and you will get to the point that fear will not overtake you. Have faith in Christ's finished work on the Cross and let yourself be consumed with the Spirit in that truth and you will not be able to contain yourself. You will just have to shout the excellencies of Christ.

My prayers go out to you, dear brother. Grace and peace.
