Any thoughts on why young children would have been demon possessed in the NT? I understand that Jesus would be able to demonstrate His power to rebuke them, but it seems that prolific infidels would be more likely candidates for the demons to possess.

Neither passage indicates the age of the possessed. All it says is that they were a son or a daughter.
