• CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi all,

Don't know if this is the right forum to put this on but if it's in the wrong place I'm sure a mod will move it.

Recently I attended a prayer / bible study group, and met some really nice people through it. Some of the discussion in the group led me to make the decision to get baptised by immersion. I was a bit hesitant about it at first, but I'm so glad I did it now, and I know it was the right decision. Anyway, one of the guys I met at the prayer group came round on the day before my baptism and I opened up to him about some of my struggles. I won't go into too much detail, but basically I've had persistent mental health problems for a while now. He brought up the possibility of deliverance ministry, and it sounded promising.

Basically I wanted to get any thoughts you guys had on deliverance ministry (i.e. your experience with it, whether it works with mental health problems, how safe is it, etc.) I will almost certainly engage in it because I have felt that my life in the Spirit is missing something, and I have faith that Jesus can break the strongholds that are keeping me down, but I want to get an idea of what it's like first; just so I can know what to expect.

I feel like an outsider here but will respond nonetheless. Personally have always seen the ACT of healing as just that, rather than an organized "ministry". With that said, basically you can pray for and lay hands on those who request or allow it and what happens happens. Never been a part of this myself but always felt it was my calling, and always felt a sometimes overwhelming sense of empathy and compassion for those suffering in hospital settings. And i DO feel there is healing for any mental disorder,as long as the person is aware of and agrees to what's being done, and even somtimes that doesn't matter.
Seems like a whole LOT of christians in general either don't have this "gift" or simply don't pursue it. But talk about the fields being ripe for harvest! The healing ministry whether for mental health or illness has always been wide open and available for anyone qualified.
Therein lies the problem for many i suppose,as it does take schooling to have the "clergy" license to be permitted into many such places, especially where the severely mentally handicapped are found. Otherwise you could go as a group, but then those occassions would be limited. But i'm no expert on this subject, but do feel that deliverance minsitry could work in almost any situation. Problem is many apparently don't believe it would or either that it ended with the book of Acts. Even though the "end" has never been made official or apparent or even suggested anywhere in the New testament.
anyway hope this helps.

Take care-
David B.

Thanks for your encouragement David,

Just to clear something up, I was more talking about being on the receiving end of deliverance ministry rather than actually pursuing it myself. I see now that my post was a little bit ambiguous and could easily be misinterpreted. Of course, it is definitely something I'll keep in mind for the future, but I think I need to sort out my own issues before sorting out other people's (otherwise it might be kind of unsafe!)

placebo99, only you can decide if going through deliverance is something for you. (Matt 10:8) If you do, it's vital that you study and meditate on Scripture. Meditate just means to think about. I know that you're already doing this and it sounds like regular advice but it's a commitment that you need to make to yourself prior to deliverance.

Also, prior to deliverance, I would asks if they have a prepared list of suggested Scripture and if they don't, you could comply your own.

Here's a few suggestions:
We're to take every thought captive (II Cor 10:5) and renew our minds with His Word (Rom 12:2).

"Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee." Isa 26:3

John 17:23 " I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me."

I don't have any experience with deliverance ministries, but I've heard testimonies from various people who have been delivered from a wide variety of issues. I would not talk you out of giving them a shot, since God can intervene in your situation and set you free. But, you should not rely solely on this type of ministry you can spend time praying to God yourself and read his word.

You probably might want to ask the lord for discernment on whether it's truly some one who needs deliverance or someone who needs healing...they all come form the devil. Yes anyone can do it, there's not a whole lot of people going in that direction as far as ministry goes, I am also interested in doing it.

You can pm me any time and we can chat about it.

By way of personal testimony I can say that receiving deliverance ministry is a tremendous blessing. I was bound for many years by several demonic spirits that oppressed my mind and emotions. The song: Set my Spirit Free by the Maranatha Singers (amongst others) is a song/prayer for deliverance. I have been involved somewhat, but the forum has limits on how much we can say.

I consider it very valuable to know who you can rely on, even if you don't use it. It's great to find a group of people who will support you in various spiritual giftings, and devoted to prayer.

If you go through it and nothing happens, you have still had a training session that will embolden you in the future.

There are multiple approaches people take, and I don't agree with them all; but read through scriptures on it and compare how the church approaches it, with scriptures.

If you are cautious and want to wait, you might try fasting. I have had some good results with long-term partial fasts (like giving up coffee, meat, etc.... just a discipline without an ulterior motive.)
