Simple question: how long does it take to deliver a person?
  • A simple command (seconds)?
  • Minutes?
  • Hours?
  • Multiple sessions?
  • It depends?
Does the duration of the deliverance depend on:
  • the faith of the deliverance minister?
  • the faith of the demonized?
  • the hierarchy of the demon(s)?
How come all of Jesus's deliverances were very quick? What was his secret?

What about dramatic Catholic Exorcisms, with intense paranormal activity, where the demons resist and fight back, as portrayed by several popular movies?

Too many variables honestly. Yes the power of God can bring a demon out of a person immediately. Jesus often just spoke a word and it happened, but Jesus walked in perfect harmony with the Spirit, we do not.

A combination of our lack of faith, the person's willingness to be set free, and the environment we are in can mean a quick deliverance up to no deliverance at all.

The first 5 bullet points are all proper answers. As stated previously, it does depend on several different factors. I would say that when it comes to actual demonic possession, the faith of one being delivered does not matter because they are not a believer, therefore, they have no faith. They are also not capable, mentally, of belief at that moment while possession is occurring. Therefore, it does largely depend on the faith of the minister and their team and anyone else interceding. Christians can be oppressed by demonic spirits and in that case, there are so many variables that all the books of the world don't contain them all lol. All the ones you listed though do work hand in hand in the case of oppression and oppression can take much longer to deal with because there's a lot of roots that need to be dug up and cast out in these cases. Personally, I'd rather be possessed than oppressed. Thank God, I've been delivered regardless.

The most important thing during deliverance, whether it be for possession or oppression, is the aftercare. Being delivered of something is the easy part, it's what the delivered does afterwards that is the hard part. If they don't fill themselves with the Holy Spirit and good things then, as the scriptures say, the spirit will come back with its friends and make them worse off than before. If the shepherd pulls his sheep out of the crevice the sheep got themselves stuck in while trying to get to something down there that looked good, without proper guidance, the sheep will just turn right around and get themselves stuck again. Therefore, it is imperative that the minister gets them linked up with counseling, bible study, and other things that can help fill themselves up with good rather than just deliver them and send them on their way.

It is instantaneous if the person becomes regenerated through His Holy Spirit.
The strong man is bound through His Holy Spirit.
Blessings

It was oppression and really, it was pretty much instantaneous. I had faith and the want to be rid of the spirits affecting my life, the ministers had faith, and God saw fit to take it from me. However, it's what happens afterward that determines if the spirit keeps wandering looking for someone else to bother or comes back stronger and worse than before. The act of deliverance may take multiple sessions, but staying delivered can be a lifelong battle.

Does oppression involve having nightmares, experiencing sleep paralysis, haunted houses, etc.?

The first rule about fight club .. kidding.

Well, the secret might lie in Matthew 13:58.

Deliverance from demonic oppression is for believers unless the Holy Spirit is leading otherwise.

"When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none. Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished. Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation." Matt 12:43-45.

A non-believer probably isn't going to pursue God and His Word; therefore, they would be empty, garnished, and swept and be worse off than before.

How long does it take? So many variables as ByTheSpirit posted.

Demons must go at the command in the name of Jesus. It may be instant or a few moments. If the person does not agree completely, it makes it harder. Some people won't accept the cause of the problem. That's when wisdom is required. It may have to wait until the person is ready.

The drama around deliverance is entirely unnecessary. Those who know their authority in Christ will not put up with any demon antics. One preacher, Ralph Mahoney, was commanding an evil spirit. It said, "I'm the kind that won't come out except by prayer and fasting". Mahoney said, "Lord Jesus already prayed and fasted for me! Come out!"

It's one aspect, usually related to occult involvement.

I saw three teenage girls in west Sydney approach a prayer minister man who came down from the USA with Gary Oates in 2003. They formed a scrum shoulder to shoulder and asked for prayer for the one in the middle. She confessed a spirit was telling her she was meant for fornication, if I recall correctly. The prayer was to use Jesus name, she briefly manifested in the eyes a glare, for a second or two, I think he snapped his fingers and it was gone. They rejoiced together, were thankful and went their way.

As I've this mentioned several times in threads, The Holy Spirit rested upon Jesus in power, and the reason that He did was because The Father had anointed His head.

The name of Jesus can do amazing things, but the power of The Holy Spirit along with His name is just awesome. This power is what is missing from the body of Christ currently.
