  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Is it me or does anyone else find the stuff they cut from films that they put back in on the DVDs fascinating.

For example...Gladiator...there is this whole scene taken out where oliver reed is saying to his gladiator...."Your not a warrior now you are an entertainer...so entertain them." THe gladiator then says in the released version "Were you entertained" and this makes more sense with the deleted scene.

It suprised me how much was cut from Terminator but I can see why since most of it did not really make much difference to the movie but I think some stuff could have been kept in Terminator two...like the alternative ending.

Some of the cut harry potter scenes are good

your views please:eek:

The deleted scenes I liked most were in Bruce Almighty. Before they scenes out it was both more romantic and had a much deeper theological message. The final version didn't have much of a message about the relationship of God with people with the ending more about Bruce neglecting his girlfriend but that part of the plot wasn't developed at all with Jennifer Aniston's character being just side character until the end of the movie. The deleted scenes developed the romantic relationship but more importantly that have Bruce answering prayer requests but the answered prayer requests go wrong. This leads to a really awesome discussion between Morgan Freeman's and Jim Carrey's characters concerning how God works in our lives.

The one I'm most disappointed with is the second episode of Star Wars. When the movie came out in theaters I saw an interview with the actor who played C-3PO and he said his character had a conversation with Amidala that gave intimate details about the character not seen before but he was disappointed it was not in the movie. The actor said we should look forward to seeing that in the dvd but it wasn't in the dvd. In fact there were very few deleted scenes on the dvd and it was obvious that those scenes weren't as long as they originally were. I think Lucas is saving them for potential use in the last movie.

I, too, felt that many of the deleted scenes in Bruce Almighty should've been part of the final product. I really liked the scenes where Bruce answers the prayers, and the scenes showing the outcome of some of them.

The deleted scenes for Joy Ride's alternate ending is also fun to watch. They give the movie a completely different ending.

I love deleted scenes! I also like hearing the commentary. The director's cut of my favorite movie Donnie Darko is being released this month with deleted material that didn't even make it on the DVD.

Another feature that I wish they would put more of on DVD's is audition tapes. Only two that I know of right off hand have audition tapes. I think it's really neat to watch actors trying out for their particular role.

Did you hear that there's a rerelease of DD hitting theaters? There's was a huge article on the movie on CNN.com a month or so back. That movie has created a huge following on DVD.

They can be cool - but somtimes you see why they left them out. Apocalypse Now Redux was an escellent example. I am glad they released it, as it gave me a chance to see a favorite old movie on the big screen, but the two big extra things - stealing the surfboard and meeting the playboy girls again were a litttle silly IMHO.

Good point about audition tapes....I bought Starship troopers recently and they showed the screen tests for two of the main characters...with no set or props just two people acting out a script...it was interesting. Sometimes the commentary is a bit sad...Resident evil had this whole conversation for a like ten minutes between the actors about their kid brothers and nothing to do with the film at all.
DD...a new release? I'll be looking for that I'm a big DD fan!

Yeah...the rerelease is a director's cut. New music, some added scenes, better graphic/special effects...and I hear some of the other scenes have been rearranged a bit. It's supposed to premier at the Seattle Film Festival on May 29, with a limited release in Seattle. Then it is supposed to be released at other theaters nationawide in July...the exact number of theaters will be dependent on how well it does in seattle. I hope to get the chance to see in in the theater.

That's one of the biggest differences I found between the cast commentary of the Extended Fellowship of the Rings and Extended Two Towers. In Fellowship of the Ring, the cast, while being humorous and made it one of the funniest things to hear, told lots of stories about the locations they were filming at, what went on when they were waiting for things, etc. But Two Towers seemed to be more random discussion and not as movie-related. It was still good...don't get me wrong. It was just different.

I was pleasantly surprised by the director's commentary though. I figured it would be boring...but a really good friend told me to watch it sometime and I did and it was real interesting.
