My belief in sola scripture compels me to find text for every understanding that I hold from the bible.
Most SDA present arguments about Sabbath, Cain, Abraham, Joseph in an attempt to connect the ten commandments to creation. Why? They have to blaze a trail to claim that law came before sin.
Sorry, but you cannot convince me without going outside text that Gen 2:1-3 teaches that God gave all humanity the sabbath, because the texts in question teaches that only God rested on the seventh day.
Sorry, you cannot convince me without going outside text, that Cain knew of the ten commandments and especially "thou shalt not kill".. because the texts in question (Genesis chapter 4) teaches me, the first use of the word SIN, and show is that God was there, coaching Cain not to let anger and depression cause SIN to rule over him, but rather he should rule over SIN. God was with Cain to teach him, (and us) that
Sin did not need to be itemized and defined in a law. It happens when ideas from within a person is thrust out of that person.
My SDA friends are taught that sin is trangression of the law. So, they ignor the wisdom of God's counsel in this context to establish law before sin.
