Decided to factory set windows 7... having a problem

Hey all, its like 12:45 am was curious if anyone is up this late (and around)

My husband was going to take my laptop to a guy who would clean everything up for me for like $99 and I thought, I dont want to pay all that if its something I could do easily enough, so I got over to youtube to see if I can just do this myself, and I followed this one particular video out (since I have an acer, and windows 7 and I still have my windows 7 operating disk)

And I got to 3:03 and clicked the restart there waiting for the powering off but I ended up getting a screen that says do not power off or unplug updating 8 of 66 updates and as you wait on it the thing just wasnt budging past that number.

I thought, why is it updating now when I am doing this? lol

I couldnt get rid of that screen and so before I tossed it out the front door into the yard I did what it told me not to do, and I powered it off thinking I could kill it that way, but it still lives, and when I power it on I get that same screen. Its bothering me that I cant do this myself, and I think I would rather get a newer puter then pay that much for someone to clean up an older on.

Just thought someone might be up and around the board this late at night who can tell me what to do to get past that particular screen.

Otherwise its going with my husband in four hours to this other guy (who I really dont want to send it out to).

Any body up?

Ignore this post thirty minutes after I post this last reply, because I will be hitting the sack and putting a note on the laptop for my husband to take it in today

It's been a few years since I have had to bring a Windows pc back to factory settings and before that it seems I was doing it every 4-6 months; most of the time it never fixed the problem; except one time i managed to make one last a couple years longer; usually i just went and bought a new computer. Hope you get your's working again.

If you still want to try, you could do a couple of things. Hit F8 as the bios splash screen is exiting and in the Advanced Boot Menu choose Safe Mode. That might get you in. Then go to Windows update and disable updating. Then try the restore.

Where were you for all my last night? (kidding)

I was hitting every key I could to kill it, and then threw my hands up in the air, I packed it up at 3:30 am with a note to my husband to just pay someone to do it LOL

I dont even have it in my possession right now.

My fault for asking so late though, it was a spare of the moment thing seeing I am having a tad more difficulty with this puter, I just wanted to be sure I had the laptop as back up so last night I decided I should make sure the other is in working order.

Thanks for the offer, I will try to remember what you said if I run across that same problem again
