So glad to see you and hear an update!I'm not dead, just busy living. I got a feeling to check out OBOB.
We are all good. Still working at the library, 25 years this year. Family is doing well. My daughter is 15 now and my son is 11. We still homeschool and that is moving along well. It's been very rewarding. My wife is fully remote from home for work since the pandemic and that has been wonderful.
I spend a good deal of time volunteering with scouts. I am the chair of Catholic Scouting for my diocese. I am spending some time right now getting the annual scout mass together for the diocese where we honor all the scouts who earned their Catholic Scouting awards.
I am getting my daughter ready for Confirmation.
All in all it's a great life. Thanks be to God.
I don't plan to get involved with forum posting again. Life is a bit busy for that. But I will be around a bit to say hi to people. How is everyone?
Davy:
Good to hear your voice again
I read your posts in a special voice in my head - yeah, ok, it's weird. I also suffer from audio hallucinations. It's way more common than people think.
But enough about me.
Scouts, love 'em. I put in about 20 years as an adult volunteer. Cub leader, Boy Scout leader, Merit Badge Councilor. The religious badges I pined on young men's chests are my second most proud moments. Eagle badges are number one. Now girls can get in too. Good for them.
But enough about me.
How did your kids get to be 15 and 11? God in heaven, I'm old.
Just tell me you're healthy and everything is fine. That's really all I want to hear.
God's taken a couple of serious runs at me, but I've manage to dodge them all. (Although the last time I got way closer to being unalive than I was comfortable with).
So glad to see you and hear an update!
Do you guys do your own homeschool curriculum or do you use one of the organized systems like Seton Home Study? We did Seton for my wife's twins last two years of high school, and we may do it again when our young kids start school, but only if we can't find a way to afford the Catholic school here.
A thousand blessings on your head.I am doing well. Had covid. Have a strange high blood pressure issue that my Dr. thinks is part of long covid. But hey, turned 50. Gonna have something. My twin sister said: "why aren't you upset turning 50?" I said I don't favor the alternative.
I am getting a class of scouts reaady to do their Ad Altare Dei award locally. Our Bishop is very supportive and will present some awards at the Scout Mass next month. I mentored at Gold Award Girl Scout with a Catholic project. It is all really wonderful. I was suprised that I was nominated and will get the St. George award as an adult Catholic Scouter.
It's really good to talk to you Charlie. I am glad I felt the urge to socially check in here.
Shoot, even I'd love to audit a Tolkien course and I'm 37! That's a really resourceful way to teach your kids, I like it.We design our own. We work at a college library so getting books to do that is easy for us. And I have designed curriculums in the past so we do our own. Just today I was doing Leaf By Niggle with my daughter. I love teaching Tolkien.
Now that's something I'd love to see!I am actually writing a Tolkien Advent Devotional and using part of it to teach them some theology.
