It's definitely not a good thing if you're dating a Mormon, where is the fellowship in that? where are the similarities in Faith and understanding of God in that? like StAnselm said, dating is in preparation for marriage, otherwise, why are you doing so?

Don't get that misunderstood. Christians should be yoked with Christians.

I have a friend who dated a Mormon, and it was ok for a while, but over time it just got problematic because they were both very strong in what they believed in and would constantly butt heads over who was right. I think situations like that are why the Bible warns against being unequally-yoked...after all, who wants to fight all the time anyway? Where's the fellowship in that?

That's a good point, MusicMelOU. The principle applies across the board, including to Christians of two different traditions. A calvinist and a charismatic, for example, might have too many points of disagreement to be really compatible.

The crucial point in that case, though, is that we are not dealing with a question of whether it's lawful, but only whether it's wise.

I think it's foolish and rather irresponsible to date someone who you wouldn't marry. Because that means that at some point you're going to have to break up, and the longer you have been going out the harder the breakup will be on both people. So I would say that "unequally yoked" and every other standard that one would apply to a potential spouse should also be applied to a potential boyfriend/girlfriend right from the start.

If you guys haven't noticed, mormons are really christians. I mean they believe Jesus is the Messiah, and are "saved" Their deffinitley not un-believers.

Some individuals are, some aren't. Most mainstream Christian churches consider the Mormon religion itself to be somewhat cult-like.

Right now I am dating a Mormon. I know in the Bible it says to not yolk yourself with unbelievers but is that just meaning marrige or is dating considered yolking?

Well, what is dating but an audition for marriage? This is especially true with Mormons, who have even more of a focus on marriage oftentimes than we do as Christians. I would be wary of dating a Mormon unless they showed signs of being open to going to church with you and possibly converting.

I was LDS (Mormon) for many years, and knowing what they believe, they are not Christians.

This very seldom works. The situation ends up in heartache for the Christian.

Ok, so I had a friend...good start, eh? Well, she was Mormon, and he was not...they started dating in high school, and dated all the way through their Bachelor degrees...all the while, each secretly waiting for the other to "convert," as both were extremely commited to their faiths. Well, at the end of college, it became apparent to at least one of them that neither of them had any plans to convert...so, now they had spent 6 years of their young lives dating someone that they knew at the beginning wasn't someone they could marry...

A word of advice...so many friends who dated people who they thought they could "change." Some of the relationships didn't work out in the dating stage, but some did...miraculously, the "weaker" partner did seem to make the "necessary changes, but without fail, every couple I have known in this situation has divorced within 3 years. Only one couple like this that I know has not gotten divorced, but they were separated for months after only 2 years of marriage, and had HUGE conflict in the marriage.

Society says dating is supposed to be "just for fun," but, HELLO, this is the rest of your life you are playing with. Regardless of whether or not a marriage lasts, there are always life-changing effects on a person, some good, and some bad. I say don't take the risk.
