Daniel 1:8-14
New Living Translation (NLT)
8 But Daniel was determined not to defile himself by eating the food and wine given to them by the king. He asked the chief of staff for permission not to eat these unacceptable foods. 9 Now God had given the chief of staff both respect and affection for Daniel. 10 But he responded, I am afraid of my lord the king, who has ordered that you eat this food and wine. If you become pale and thin compared to the other youths your age, I am afraid the king will have me beheaded.
11 Daniel spoke with the attendant who had been appointed by the chief of staff to look after Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. 12 Please test us for ten days on a diet of vegetables and water, Daniel said. 13 At the end of the ten days, see how we look compared to the other young men who are eating the kings food. Then make your decision in light of what you see. 14 The attendant agreed to Daniels suggestion and tested them for ten days.

8 Daniel decided not to eat the food because it was unclean. Daniel asked so that would know he would not eat that food. Sometimes when we are to do the what is right it is right to check with someone involved because they may even help us.
9 When the Lord has us to do something He will provide a way. The king's worker liked Daniel and the Lord used this so Daniel could fulfill the Lord's will.
10 This man knew the king would kill him if he did not follow orders. Sometimes what the Lord has us to do is not easy but is challenging and we need to be prepared for the challenge by looking to the Lord.
11 Daniel understand and goes to the man incharge of this other man. Sometimes we may have to move to someone else for the help we need.
12-13 The reason Daniel may have not wanted meat was that it may have been food from a sacrifice to a pegan god or may have had fat on it or may not of had the blood drained before it was cooked all these would have made it unclean. Vegetables were never sacrificed to a god so they would have been clean and pure. Daniel trusts in the Lord and comes up with a challenge. When the Lord has us do something we are to trust Him and follow thru with what we are to do by Him.
14 The Lord provided a way for Daniel to eat pure food. When we are faced with not getting our way it is easy to give up but we should continue to allow the Lord to use us and prepare us for His will and His plan for us.
