  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I really wonder if I am culturally adventist.

I definitely feel the msot comfort in adventist churches, but there are some that I don't feel comfortable in at all.

Also, I don't think I have much of the other adventist cultural points. I am pretty sure that if I found a nice church, even Sunday church, I could leave the adventist church and never look back.

What makes you culturally adventist? Because I don't understand it.

I was not much of a cultural SDA. However, we live relatively close to an SDA cultural center (SDA hospital and school). I have met a number of folks who identify themselves as culturally SDA. They suggest that they enjoy maintaining relationships with friends they've had for a lifetime and they enjoy frequenting places that have been part of their history since childhood. Some of them are also concerned about rocking the boat with their families. Several cultural SDAs that we know actually attend a non-SDA church on the side.

It seems that the cultural SDAs that we know feel as though they are deriving benefits from SDAism without engaging what they view as the downsides of SDAism. I take no issue with that. For a number of reasons, it wasn't a decision that I could make but I can see why it might work for others.

JM,

Cultural Adventism is bound up with obligation.
