  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I tend to make my own patterns. Nothing too terribly complex because I want to actually be able to do it. Two winters ago I made everyone bookmarks or Christmas Tree decorations of a cross stitched cross, and I changed the colors, size(scale stayed the same so I didn't have to keep doing the counting) and then I copied stuff from other patterns like flowers, a bird beside the cross.

So now I'll get 4-6 things each from a different pattern and put it all together for a larger design.

I like it, it works out well.

U know,if ur looking for some free patterns, there are some cute ones on www.maurer-stroh.com or www.123stitch.com but by now i figured out that buying kits is cheaper and saves a lot of nerves =) so,get yourself an issue of the CrossStitcher or something like that and choose =)

I just recently had a renewed interest in cross stitching. I did it when I was younger because my mom did it and encouraged me to. Its been quite awhile since I have but I'm sure I'd be able to "pick up where I left off" as far as the skill goes. I remember my mother used to make lots of them when I was younger. She was pregnant with my 17 year old sisters and was on bed rest and made lots then. I wouldn't have as much time but I thought I could do a project and just keep working on it! Glad to see there are a few other x-stitchers out there, even in today's high tech world

Hi. There are many cross stitch groups on yahoo and many of them have patterns. I also find a lot of books at my local library. I also like kits but personally find buying the floss and the aida cloth cheaper than buying some of the kits. I just learned this spring how to cross stitch and love it and am working on my first huge sampler for my friend's Christmas present. I will try to post a picture of it. It is in two parts as it is huge and I had to scan it. The first one is the top half and the second is the bottom half of which is more has been done since I scanned it. Forgot I can't post links yet, if you want to see it feel free to email me and I will send you the scanned pics.

my mother used to x-stitch all the time and had so many colors and cloths. I need to decide if I wanna take it up seriously again or just get one kit and work on it. I wanna do some as Christmas gifts, but I know I dont have THAT much time even though its months away. Hmm. maybe I'll just pick a few female relatives that would enjoy one and work on them :)

I guess you could call me a counted cross stitch junkie. I'm never not working on some cross stitch. I like other kinds of needlework, like quilting and knitting, but there's just something so relaxing and fulfilling about putting all those little tiny stitches in just the right places and watching a beautiful picture slowly emerge. And all those colors of floss are just so yummy!

I am with you on the floss color ideas, they are just wonderful. DMC seems to have more color each time I go to Crafts 2000!!! I even buy colors I don't need LOL :) It is very relaxing, well except when you have to rip out something you have already done because you were off a count :( :sigh: The one I am doing for my friend is very close to being done and then I will start my in laws Noah's Ark sampler.

I am going to see if I can get this right. Here is the sampler I am making for my friend's Christmas present, please keep in mind that since I scanned this much more has been done on it. Each block has a different part of the verse with a picture to go with it. The eyes on the people haven't been added yet as they are french knots that I don't want coming undone as I put the fabric in my hoop, those will be added right before I frame it.

I would love to do a Kinkade but right now I am doing good on what I trying to get done for Christmas. I will have to start right after Christmas to get ready for 2006 LOL The kinkades look very hard at least the kit one's do

I'm working on some Christmas gifts also. I stitch gifts to give at Christmas all throughout the year. I just recently finished and framed a trio of tea cups for my mother in law. One year I dared to go out and buy her a Christmas gift instead of stitching one, and I could just sense her disappointment. So now I know better, LOL.
