  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

For those of you who crochet, I've been crocheting a few scarves recently using acrylic yarn. They've been coming out rather stiff though, so I've had to make them of a very thin width. Is there any way for me to soften or stretch the scarf that will make it a little more flexible? I don't know, like setting or something? Any technique suggestions for this?

I have found that it is truly up to the yarn how it will work and be used. Most, not all, acrylic yarns are stiff, and they can get more flexible and softer once you've washed them as a finished project.

There are a couple of yarns that are acrylic and are softer to work with. Carons Simply Soft, which works up wonderfully, but sometimes can be too soft (as in loosing it's body/shape) after washing. I still do not hesitate using Simply Soft, because it has a beautiful sheen and is so very soft and easy to work with. The other is Red Heart Soft and this I have not used at all.

Sorry I can't be of further help.

Acrylic yarns tend to hold their shape longer, but are stiff in the beginning. They will softon up a bit in the wash. I do agree with using a softer yarn to begin with, but don't make your stitches too lose or it will lose it's shape.
