These are all not meant to be taken literally. The bible has many fulfilled prophesies, historical accuracy, scientific accuracy, unique structure and a wonderful effect on people. This is a christian only part of the forum by the way.
I'm glad to see your not claiming to be a literalist.

Ah so not all is to be taken literally. Which parts can I take literally. The ones you (15 years of age) deem that I can.

And the insinuation at the end is that folks who don't agree are not Christian is a quick way to get banned from the forum.

Personally I know the Bible is not scientifically accurate NOR is it meant to be. It is not a science book. As for prophecy - pure bunk in my opinion. I don't even think Revelation belongs in the Bible - and neither did early Christians I might add.

1. Why do you mock my age? It does not impose limits on my knowledge.
2. You should take many things in the Bible to be true. Prophesy is not "bunk". Daniel the prophet predicted in about 538 BC that Christ would come as Israel's promised Savior and Prince 483 years after the Persian emperor would give the Jews authority to rebuild Jerusalem, which was then in ruins. This was clearly and definitely fulfilled.
3. You say the Bible is not scientificaly accurate. What about Roundness of the earth (Isaiah 40:22),Almost infinite extent of the sidereal universe (Isaiah 55:9),law of conservation of mass and energy (II Peter 3:7),hydrologic cycle (Ecclesiastes 1:7)Vast number of stars (Jeremiah 33:22),law of increasing entropy (Psalm 102:25-27)the importance of blood in life processes (Leviticus 17:11) or atmospheric circulation (Ecclesiastes 1:6) or even the gravitational field (Job 26:7).
3. You should also notice that no REAL "mistake or contradiction" have been found in the Bible many have been claimed, Bible scholars have always been able to work out reasonable solutions to all such problems.
4. Praise You. God Bless

I suggest you read the bible. It is holy scripture and cannot/should not be misinterpreted.
Yes, the Bible is holy scripture--but although it may be argued that it should not be misinterpreted, it often is misinterpreted. There are also many places where even a correct translation can yield multiple meanings and many different interpretations of the actual correct meaning of a verse or passage.....

How you get conservation laws out of II Peter 3:7 is beyond me.

These appeals to Bible scientific accuracy are the extremes in reaching for credibility.

I agree that through generations and translation we have errors, but these are funny:

"does that accuracy include

1. "grasshoppers having 4 legs"

Back hopping legs are not considered feet. Insects that walk ‘on all fours’, have wings, and have hind hopping legs have the characteristics of the grasshopper, cricket, and the locust.

leptophyes-punctatissima.jpg
tettigonia-verdissima.jpg

2. "mustard seeds being the least of all seeds"

Do we really lose the subject that quickly? I mean, do we...really? I need to know.

(Mat 13:31-32) Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like to a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field: {32} Which indeed is the least of all seeds: but when it is grown, it is the greatest among herbs, and becometh a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in the branches thereof.

Supply the Ellipsis from v. 31: "than all the seeds [that a man sows in his field]".

3. "Pi = 3"

Admittedly, I don not know the chapter or verse from which this is derived.

4. "and on and on and on"

Oh goody! What else have you got?

I have had enough debate for tonight. God Bless you.

Ps: some of these are metaphors and others are observable and clear to us. These are not stated in the technical jargon of modern science, of course, but in terms of the basic world of man's everyday experience; nevertheless, they are completely in accord with the most modern scientific facts.

RVincent,

with respect this is lame.

Insects have 6 legs - you don't artificially separate them.

Poppies are just one plant with smaller seeds that have been sown in fields in the Middle East for as long as mustard.

The Pi reference is in Kings I believe.

Going back to the grasshopper thing, It is modern literal interpretation that attempts to explain this. I prefer to read it literally. Grasshoppers have 6 legs - they are obviously legs, period.
