Creation-based Science Graduate Programs Anyone?

"Getting a degree in creationism is about as useful or scientifically valid as getting degree in Geocentrism or Flat Earth theory"..
ICR does not offer courses in creationism..see their brochure they are in valid sciences..as for the Sickle-cell issue...yes lets keep em coming ..my blood cells may be affected but at least i'm protected from malaria when the terrorist strikes..hooray for SCA..

Hmm...there's a course offered called "geochronology" taught by Snelling. Given his inability to represent radiometric dating methods accurately I don't think that course teaches "valid science." I suspect it teaches creationist views exclusively.

They may pretend they teach valid science, but research says otherwise.

Fine. you can do what most creation scientists do, which is get a masters or doctorate at any univeristy. Then you just claim that no matter what evidence is presented, you cannot sway from your literal interpretation of the Bible. That is what most of them do, I beleive. Read some articles and interviews with Kurt Wise.

There are other beneficial mutations as well. I don't like to include SCA as a very beneficial mutation, as there are detractors to having it, as being anemic.

I always like to include SCA because it shows how the environment dictates whether a mutation is beneficial or not. Since for those in the US, SCA is not really beneficial, but in Panama its very beneficial. Thus something bad can be something good and something good can be something bad, it all depends on the environment.

The thing is that those "sickle cells" made it hard for the mishapen RBC's to make it around some of the turns the circ. systems makes and through some of the narrow passages in blood vessels, which is one advantage of normal RBC's is that they are somewhat "flexable". So I would not be overly excited about the prospect of SCA, which in and of itself can be fatal in some cases.

Yes, Arikay that is a good example though.

Stinger - I'm reconciled with God. Funny thing is, it didn't involve chucking out everything I knew about science and mistaking ancient theological treatises for scientific hypotheses.

Lonely and alone? Listen, stinger, even amongst Christians in my country acceptance of mainstream science is by far the majority. The purveyors of theological-mythology-as-science are a tiny, vocal minority, the embarrassing relative that we love anyway, to most of us.

I'm a bit unclear on this. Can someone clarify in what way changing my beliefs about biology will help me reconcile with God? We're getting along fine, to the best of my knowledge, and I think I can safely rule out a deity who is both omnibenevolent and passive-aggressive.

Telling you to read Kurt Wise or other Creation scientist interviews wasn't helpful? That telling you that they mostly have graduated from standard universities? Go look at the scientist profiles on a creation site. Write to them and ask what to do. Continuing to inform people that creation science is false and furthuring my studies are my hobbies.

Many of you Christians aren't helping yourselfs. You are giving some of the most immature responses that I have heard in these forums.

I suspect that many of you have generally blind faith. How can you ever hope to share your faith with non-Christians if you argue without logic? No one will believe you.

Stingerwolf, I would suggest that you get your MA (or whatever it is you need) from a Christian-run institution. Often they will give you both viewpoints. That way you can get a quality education and will have a much better base for arguing your creation-related beleifs AND you will futher your scientific knowledge. You need to know where everyone else is coming from in their views. Maybe you have a BofS with a double major in Chemistry and Biology with a 4.0 GPA and are seeking a Christian view because you haven't had formal one. I don't really know. I'm not trying to belittle you, but some of your posts do not contain good arguments at all. I would suggest taking some philosophy courses.

If God's word is true (as I believe it is), then we can believe the Bible when it tells us that God is the truth and does not lie, nor is He deceitful or false. Thus, both His word and His world should give consistent and true accounts of His creation. If you think they are inconsistent and contradictory, you may find it helpful to make a closer study of both.

A study of physics, astronomy, biology and other sciences at a good accredited university--including Christian universities like Notre Dame, Baylor, SMU and Wake Forest--would probably be a good place to start, and there are many excellent scientific journals and books that cover the tremendous scientific discoveries that have been made over the past 70 or so years that are giving us a much clearer picture of the creative process.

Similarly, get into the actual meanings of what the Bible says by studying the original languages of the Bible--Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek--and ancient commentaries on the scriptures in question. Even if a word-for-word translation were possible, it would still not really be fully "literal" and true to the original meanings, since it would not express all the nuances of the original language.

Since Hebrew is a rather primitive language that lacks the large vocabulary available in English, the same word or phrase may have many different possible meanings. The person or persons translating Hebrew into English generally use the most common meaning that is possible within the context--but that may cause what appears to be a conflict with a different verse or with a scientific or archelogical discovery.

However, most such apparent conflicts disappear upon a closer inspection of the range of meanings and the full context of the passage in question. When dealing with scripture that has scientific implications, in order to avoid reading a meaning into a passage that it probably should not have, I like to cross reference it with analysis and commetary from outstanding biblical scholars who wrote more than 700 years ago (well before modern scientfic discoveries).
