  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I want to get the whole thing on dvd, and I found a 30 dollar set with three dvds on ebay. Would you recommend it?

Be wary of Ebay. Some of the stuff sold there is pirated. (Bought some without knowing at the time). Usually the pirated material has the audio in Japanese and subs in english and Chinese. Or audio in Japanese and English and subs in English and Chinese.

From what I think I recall the main countries which sell the pirated material is China, Hong Kong, and Singapore.

Some websites with more info:
Anime Ditgal -Pirate Faq
Eyes Wide Open

As for Cowboy Bebop itself....good series. :)

Indeed, quality stuff. My favorite was session 17, Mushroom Samba, who caught that?

I did. Thought it was hilarious. Glad Ed likes mushrooms. ;)

My personal favorite was the episode in which Ed was first introduced and made friends with a lonely weather satellite. Happy she gets along so well with Eins.

Spike: "You know the three things I can't stand, Jet?
pets...
dogs...
and
women with attitudes.

So tell me...WHY DO WE HAVE ALL THREE LIVING IN OUR SHIP?"

*snicker*

Most memorable line in the whole series IMHO.

Another way to ID pirated material is to look at how many episodes are on the disc. Most legit Western releases have either 3 or 4 episodes (some have 5, like Witch Hunter Robin, Weiss Kreuz, Evangelion Platinum, His And Hers Circumstances/Kare Kano, etc.), and most legit Japanese DVDs have only 2 or 3 episodes on them. In any case, if you see any anime DVDs selling really cheap with about 8 episodes on a disc, it's definitely pirated (I'd bet if it simply has 8 episodes it's pirated, but Dual Layer discs can probably store that much easily without degrading the quality much; I wouldn't bet on that, though, most anime is released on single-layer with few exceptions). Your best bet is to order from Barnes and Noble or Amazon if you want the English language releases, and cdjapan if you want the Japanese release. Just know that you're gonna have to be prepared to pay a lot more for a Japanese release because of import taxes, shipping and handling, and the fact that Japanese retail price is generally higher (for example: the third Inuyasha movie is $50, before all the extra charges are piled on; when that movie comes out in America, it'll probably be $30, possibly $40 if it comes as a special edition).

I have the Cowboy Bebop Perfect Sessions Limited Edition DVD Box Set that contains all 26 episodes on 3 DVDs. It's a legit copy, not pirated. Both Japanese and English audio with English and Chinese subtitles. Not the cheesy ones where it looks like someone with bad English and typing skills wrote out the translation. (Unlike my Trigun set... Vas9h theS tampede!) My girlfriend got it for me for my birthday, and it was only something like $35 from somewhere on Amazon. It's one of those quarter-fold packages, raised glossed artwork, and even a plastic sleeve.

I love Cowboy Bebop, but DON'T get those DVDs! They are more than likely bootlegs...maybe even ones with subtitles that hardly make sense. Your best bet is to go to somewhere like amazon.com and pay full price. (There are 6 DVDs at about 22 to 26 dollars each depending on the store)

If you like CB, then you might want to check out Lupin the 3rd (it is the series that inspired it).

(Note: Lupin III is a good series, but some of the movies and episodes have some situations that you might think are a little...inappropriate. I would recommend watching one of these things if you don't want a bad first impression:
Episode 0: First Contact: http://www.anime-planet.com/animerec/454.html
The Castle of Cagliostro: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00000JL3T/102-3410111-4612111?v=glance
...And I hear that Voyage to Danger is pretty good as well (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00006673C/103-7871756-2534214?v=glance).)
