• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

hi,
I was wondering if anyone has any good ideas on how to cover the marks and scars on arms? I have to wear uniform at school, and the past few days have been really hot and i haven't been able to take my jumper off.
I have tried using foundation, but even the scars show up, not just the fresher marks, while i am still trying to stop, i have to be able to hide it from the teachers, they worry about me already and if they see this, then they will put me on warning again, i hate it when all the teachers are checking me to see whats going on, and thinking it's their business to go poking around in my life, even if it means they have to be nicer to me! I don't really want to get in any trouble again for shouting at themt o leave me alone as it's none of their business! lol
any one got any ideas?

Arm socks, arm warmers, wristbands, bracelets (rubber, beaded ect. ect.)

Also, Palmers Cocoa butter with Vitamin E works AWESOME on scars. And they just came out with a new scar serum. I haven't tried it yet, so I can't say how it works... but it's worth a shot. I would recommend reading the directions and warnings before you put it on... because I know with the Cocoa Butter... you CAN'T put it on fresh wounds.

Also, when you're out in the sun, MAKE SURE you have at least some kind of sunscreen on your scars. The sun makes them worse. I use SPF 4 and it works. 4 is the lowest i think you can go. So if 4 works, the rest must too. ;) Don't get me wrong, though. Sunscreen doesn't make them dissappear... it just keeps them from getting darker. :)

You're loved.

Trying To Follow In Your Footsteps Lord
hey, i know xactly wot ur goin thru, just a couple of weeks ago i self harmed cos everything got me down. i was wondrin how 2 cover them up as well, only problem with me is that if im wearin a jumper, i will roll the sleaves up. my parents and my bfs parents have already seen them, but i made up some story, i dont think they believed me tho.

I still have marks. and i dont think they are ever going 2 go, in some ways thats good cos then if i ever feel like doing it again, i can remember how painful and how i hated doing it to myself after doing it. I cried in my bf's arms cos i hated myself so much for doing it.

just remember, whatever is getting u down, God loves you and people around you DO love and care for you.

i look at my scars now and i think that i rely h8 myself for doing it, but at that time, it felt like the only thing to do.

God be with you, i hope you realise that your not just hurting yourself doing this, your hurting other people around you too.

Yeah...that isn't the best to get yelling at a teacher! lol! Wished to do that a bunch of times! Huh...I wear sweatbands (like some real cool Christian artists do today) on the middle of my forarm to cover my burns.....there are also these arm sleeves....go all the way up your arm...pretty cool....come in a million different colors and designs and some are kinda seethrough and some are full on opaque fabric...so...that works too.
