  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Unfortunately with a new baby and a 4 year old, we are unable and too beat to make it to couple's Sunday school. I know that my husband and I having a study together would only enrich our lives that much more. I'm wanting to start having a study together here at the house at least once or twice per week to start. We really enjoyed couple's class together, but we weren't having to lead off the discussions either.

Since we've never done this together before, I really want to know how you guys have your studies/devotionals together (details please :help: ). Also are there any good books out there specifically for this purpose that work great in addition to using the bible?

Thanks in advance and I'm eager to see what you all say.

Most Christian book shops have study books that can be used for Bible study for couples. There is even a couples study Bible available.
Hope this helps.

First let me commend you for wanting to meet with your husband.
Second, let me recommend the reading of the Psalms together. Now before you turn me off with a "been there, done that" response, let me explain. The Psalms have always been the payer book of God's people. (The Psalms themselves say so.) So a single reading will NOT give you everything you need from this wonderful part of Holy Scripture. Keep in mind that the Psalms are the most quoted OT book within the NT. It contains more prophetic material than any other book, in relation to the Messiah.

Now, the practical. My wife and I have read from the Psalms every weekday morning for the past three years. Only now are we beginning to be able to link certain parts with the NT and with Christ. In addition, the Psalms now serve as the basis for our own prayer life. (No need to go hunting obscure prayers elsewhere in scripture!) There is no better prayer of confession than Psalm 50 (LXX). {Psalm 51 for Protestants}

In addition to the Psalms, I suggest the book "Christ In The Psalms" by Fr. Patrick Henry Reardon. It can be purchased at amazon.com

Peace.

Peter

Night lights by Dr James Dobson and his wife!!!!

It only take about 10 minutes each night to do and it is wonderful(Especailly with two small children)! My hubby and I have went through the book twice.
It is also what I give to all of our friends as a wedding gift.
