  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I know alot of you guys dont like it but I sure do! I hear alot of people say its really dumb but then talk about certian styles of music like rap and say how its the best thing since sliced bread even though it takes absolutely no talent to do it. Now if anyone feels the same way I do, say it but if not, its cool. I just think it would be great to know if there are any other country music people in this forum like myself!

looks like you already found it.

I love Alan Jackson, I like Toby Keith, but some of his songs are obnoxious and I don't care for them. I have loved everything that sugarland has put out.
I'm trying to get more into Charlie Daniels, I love that man. Did I mention that I love country music? :D

I really respect the old country - Johnny Cash, Hank Williams Jr., etc. - but a lot of newer country artists sound like bubblegum pop with some twangy guitar. Ugh. Also, the "hick hop" thing that's in style is horrible. A good friend (who has near-identical taste in music) and I used to joke that a rap and country hybrid was the only genre that hadn't been formed yet because it would be so unbelievably cr**py. (Hey, the "c" in country + rap...) It's been formed, and yes, it sucks.

There is a lot of good country music.....even if a lot of country nowadays is just vaguely countryish pop. Plenty of that is good as is plenty of real country.

I like Blake Shelton's song out right now, its good. Toby Keith has had lots of good stuff. I LOVE Tim McGraw's song out now, Drugs or Jesus. Sarah Evans is good. Can't forget classics like Willie Nelson. Johnny Cash is good.

It isn't my favorite Genre but yeah, theres lots of good music in it.

I like some country music. More of the old bluegrass, honky-tonk style though. All the pop country is bad, IMHO. George Strait rules.

Oh and last time I checked, there was a bluegrass country forum to post topics like this in! :)

I enjoy some older country: Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Chet Atkins, and Willie Nelson. Some Wilco material could be considered country, I guess. I think for the most part though, country has become an extension of pop music for the South.

I think that folk is where it's at. :)

I have no problems admitting I love the Dixie Chicks :D

I also kinda like Shania Twain's new song, although I can't remember the name of it. I saw the video the other day, they are kinda dancing in a country bar- pretty catchy!

Lynyrd Skynyrd, are they country? Well they rock.
Back in the 70s they were officially 'Southern Rock' (as were The Eagles), but both country fans and rock fans enjoyed them the same. They did leave a large influence on some contemporary country artists, though.

I listen to some, not as much as I used to when my family first started listening to it, but some. Not full albums, though, just songs here and there. Deana Carter, Sons Of The Desert, Brooks and Dunn, Clint Black, Collin Raye, Jason Sellers, Kathy Mattea, Martina McBride, Paul Brandt, Reba McEntire, Sawyer Brown, Shania Twain, Ty Herndon, Keith Urban, Bruce Robison, a few others. Some of those were only one or two songs though, mind you. Take note = most are from around the mid 90s.

Also, does anyone remember Dean Miller's song "Nowhere USA"?

ive heard this before, but i still dont get how johnny cash affects the sound of metal?
he doesn't. I don't know why people say that either. I think he wrote that one song for NIne Inch Nails, but they aren't metal. If it's not here : www.metal-archives.com , it's not metal.

Other way around. It was written and recorded by Trent Reznor/Nine Inch Nails back in 1994. Johnny Cash just covered it.

The Eagles were never Southern Rock.

About the closest they came to being Southern Rock is that they employed a twin guitar sound similar to some SR bands.

They were a part of an entirely different subgenre called "Canyon Rock".

Southern Rock would be your Skynyrds, your Allmans, your Wet Willies and Elvin Bishops and Barefoot Jerrys.

Canyon Rock would include artists like Jackson Brown, J.D. Souther, Chris Hillman, Jim Photoglo, POCO, Buffalo Springfield, Linda Ronstadt, etc.
