That doesn't work so well in manufacturing--it doesn't lend itself to cash wages. The employees are generally on the payroll with a name and SS number provided by the company.

"they" don't pay anything.

Yes, they do - just the same as how renters do ultimately pay property tax. There's just an middle man in the process.

If you want to pay 5 guys under this scheme, you could either pay 5 guys $200/day or you could pay 1 guy $1000/day and let him dole out $800 of that to his four buddies. If, as you describe, that one guy is on payroll, then that whole $1000 gets taxed. As I pointed out, it could be taxed at a higher rate than if it had been split up among 5 separate checks.

It's time to hold employers responsible.

It's time to hold employers responsible.
This is the crux of the issue. Officials would rather play 'whack-a-mole' on individuals than take on some big, deep-pocketed, developer. If there was interest in stopping it, they'd prosecute a few of those big guys.

$200/day or $1000/day, it doesn't matter.

If the one guy on payroll is getting paid all of the wages for all of the guys, then all of that money is being taxed because it's all being run through payroll. The fact that it's being doled out later doesn't negate the fact that it was taxed.

In one city I was told to mind my own business or I would be banned from bidding jobs there. Almost everyone speaks up for a living wage but behind the scenes they love that cheap labor. They will completely ignore the law to save a dollar. I've even watched Illegals building low income housing for the people they are hurting. Smh.

5 guys that are legal will net taxes on 5 thousand. 5 Illegals will net taxes on 1 thousand. At what point did we stop caring about our own? I first saw this problem all the way back in the 90s. It's hurts the standard of living that we have all worked for.

On this we agree.
Based on what I'be read on the forums where you and I would disagree; I think addressing it at the employer/developer/corporate level is where you get results. Make a few of those guys responsible and you make a dent. You would seem to favor those protecting those employers and building a wall to continue with the 'whack-a-mole' at the border.

Does it tho? How would the standard of living go up when everything is so darn expensive to make that you can hardly afford it?

I guess we could just live with less stuff, which might have some great side benefits environmentally.

Can you describe this system again because I think one of us is misunderstanding the other. You said, "The company pays one man who is on the payroll and he then hands cash to the Illegals."

Who is "he"? The boss or the guy on payroll? I understood this to mean that the boss paid the one payroll guy, and the payroll guy then took his check and divvied it up with his co-workers. Is that correct? Or does the boss hand out the cash?

What politician favors helping the American people? Not one of them is willing to stop the problem. I see them all as the same on the issue. They just say they have different positions, their actions say otherwise.

What kind of a job is it that a newly arrived foreigner who doesn't speak much English and very likely didn't finish school in his own country can take away from an American?

I would gladly give so my neighbor could increase their standard of living. That's what we all want isnt it?

That's just one example. I've seen companies pay straight cash and write it off as numerous things. Point is they are cheating the system and citizens are hurting for it.

It prevalent in the construction trades, which can pay quite well.

A 60 dollar an hr construction job. Labor is a big part of our economy. Several trades still don't require a license.

I can understand why employers would think it a good idea. What about the unions?
What unions? They're certainly few, far between, and not a factor. The GOP set out to destroy the unions with reagan and have been mostly successful.
