• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi all, I've been in christian counseling for about 2 or so years now and my first counselor mainly focused on my depression and I felt that i needed one who focused both on my depression and also did DBT, so i switched counselors not only because of that but also my old counselor was going to be moving to another clinic, so i got a new one that I've been with ever since and she specializes in mainly DBT.. but now im seeing that i need a christian counselor that works with DBT, depression and my other disorders. What should i do? im getting tired of switching counselors and want to find the right one that will address all my issues not just one or the other.

Talk to your counselor about the possibility of her helping you with your depression as well? My counselor mainly does CBT with me but if I ever have anything I need to talk about to do with my depression or other things she's happy to talk about them with me. Or what about seeing more than one person they don't necessarily have to be a councellor sometimes just talking to a christian friend can help...

I am not really sure what you should do, but I wouldn't give up without a fight. I know it is so tiring, I am going through the same thing right now trying to find a counselor but God is there for you and it is the only way to get better. Best Wishes, I will pray for you. Lily00:angel:

  hi! sweetheart

i consider myself a pro at counselling. i've been in and out since i was 7...
mental illnesses. anyhow. it taught me the rules that therepists have to go by.

i agree you should talk to your counsellor about your concerns. even that you wish she was christain.

you won't offend. they are trained to take your information and seek a solution. this this one rule they have... it's called a code of ethics.

after you tell her; she should come up with solutions to meet your needs. (if she doesn't she's not fallowing her code of ethics = not a good therepist).

also. DBT frequently have groups ran by christian organizations. you can ask if she can find out if there is a group (group plus your counselling).

and another code of ethics counselors have: they may not teach against or disrespect your spiritual beliefs.

have you descovered yet that the scriptures hold the same priciples as DBT training? if you aren't that far... tell me where you are. i'll be happy to match it with scriptures. i have a certificate in DBT. (not degree = i just completed a full couse with two instructors).

Hey! the clinic that i go to for counseling is all christian, and both my old and my therapist now are christians, they worked at the clinic until my old one started working at another building.. i'm almost done with chap 2 in the depression and aniexty workbook..Really? i never knew that, coolie! i was in one in 04 but couldnt stay bc i was having bad side effects from the meds i was on at the time. Shes a good therapist but i prefer what my post said.. idk.. i think my prob is that im not understanding how to apply the dbt to my depression and aniexty which in my eyes is the reason why i feel im not seeing any results.. but thanks so much for willingly wanting to help me. I'm really thankful for that!

I will be praying you find a counselor that will specialize in DBT and depression. I am not sure what DBT is but I know God knows and will be able to lead you to the counselor who will help meet all of your needs.

In Him,

you know the part of DBT that tries to get you to focus on wise mind?
the practice, practice, practice?
the bible talks about renewing your mind.
Romans 12:2
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

by focusing on wise mind and practice, you are teaching yourself inside your thinking.
by the time you are finished with the cousre you are taking it will start to not only show, but you will see it.

are you keeping a DBT diary card?

well  maybe this will help. the "practice, practice, practice" that they keep telling you is what will help. it teaches you to think differently. (like the bible verse) just remember that practice is your key.

i think those diary cards are very important. they help you to remember it all.
looking them up... i listed the ones that are helpful to remember.

The grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. It teaches us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age. Titus 2:11-12

your skills are teaching you alot, have faith that God will reveal what this all means.

Lol I was gonna ask you the same thing about DBT

CBT stands for cognitive behavioural therapy is looks it changing the way you think about things so about challenging all the neggative and wrong thoughts that ppl with depression often have.

"practice, practice, practice" :holy: ...

when i'm upset i practice doing things to keep me happy. i try to do my favorite things.
if i forget and start to have a melt-down and get distructive, i do my best to find ways to help myself. getting someone's help or on my own.

this type of practice changes your reponses in thinking and feelings. it was even talked about us in the bible: search for what is good. not just good to do. search for the joy and pleasure in what God gives you.

Philippians 4:4-9
4 Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!
5 Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand.
6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Meditate on These Things
8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. 9 The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.
