Yesterday as I was chatting with my coordinator of youth ministry (who also happens to be a good friend of mine), he revealed to me that he was very concerned about one of our teens. She had been chatting with him on MSN and was revealing suicidal tendencies. As they chatted more, it became clear to him that this was no joke - she is seriously depressed, feeling hopeless, and has fallen victim to despair in the truest sense of the word. I immediately ended our conversation and literally ran off to pray because I am very concerned for this young woman. Having been a victim of depression myself - though not anything serious enough to produce suicidal tendencies - imagining the depth of the despair that would drive this young woman to entertain the thought of making such a decision is heartbreaking.
Please, please, please pray for her. I don't know precisely who she is, but only that she is one of our teens. As far as I know, she has not done anything to physically harm herself yet. She did end up allowing my CYM to take her to the hospital and he didn't get home until 1am because he wanted to make sure that she was alright. I have been praying that she will receive the help that she needs, but also that God will shine His light into the darkness that shrouds her life so that she might find the strength to take His hand and allow the Lord to walk with her through this dark time in her life.
Why do ones so young suffer so much? It is truly heartbreaking to handle situations like this. So many of the teens that we deal with are so broken - emotionally, spiritually... please pray for those who feel alone, for those who have lost hope, for those who have given in to despair. Please pray for God's continued triumph over the Evil One. Please pray for this young girl.
Grace and peace.
