  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Could a genetically-modified 'human' be saved?

Or would Christ's representative death no longer apply? Eg if someone started crossing ape and human genes somehow and making a new hybrid species. Though I guess on that note, would such a being still be able to sin or be subject to Adam's headship, original sin and all the rest of it.

A bit of a hypothetical shower thought question, to be sure.

A "Planet Of The Apes" theology question.

God Only Knows.

We know that humans are unique among all of God's creation in that we alone are created in His image, we alone possess the Imago Dei. So the question really is - would a genetic hybrid that was half human half another species still be a human created in the image of God?

NO, They are created beings, Humans were "breathed" into existence. There is no way they could have a soul as humans do if they are created.
Are humans that come into existence through IVF humans?

Where exactly do you draw the line between "created" and "breathed"?

even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love he predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will.
God is Omnipotent so He knows us, I do know how he would know a human created being?

You didn't actually answer my question. In one sense, aside from Mary's miraculous conception, all humans are created by other humans, right? I mean it takes sperm from a male and an egg from a woman to create a human being, right?

So my question is fairly basic at this point - do you consider people alive today that were conceived through in vitro fertilization to be human beings with souls?

If it is a human born of a mans sperm, Then yes, but I thought you meant like a "clone" type individual.

Interesting question though since man in his madness may well venture into splicing genes with other creatures just to give him that competetive edge over others.

I've never thought it through myself from a spiritual point of view. I Don't want to either but there may come a time when we are faced with this reality.

So if clone's aren't actually human beings, I assume you would be perfectly fine with me going out and having a clone created for insurance purposes in case I'm ever in a car wreck. If I needed a new heart I could just take the heart out of my clone, right?

There is a thought that this was the reason for the destruction that was brought in the time of Noah, that only Noahs family where pure in thier generations and that the rest had become infected with the genetic material of angels and thier experiments.

Isn't an identical twin a clone?

I guess what makes one a human isn't unique DNA but unique personhood, then? Hmm..

Turning it around, a clone would simply be an identical twin with a different age.

Seen that option played out: The Island (2005 film) - Wikipedia
