who is able to access the white house press pool.

Apparently this is something that Trump himself needs to control
White House says it will control press access to Trump, not reporters

Their (predictably obvious) response:
In a statement, the organization's president, Eugene Daniels, said, "This move tears at the independence of a free press in the United States. It suggests the government will choose the journalists who cover the president. In a free country, leaders mustAnother not be able to choose their own press corps."

Interesting comment from the judge that was undoubtedly preyed upon by his press team. Why not? Perfect excuse to wrest the control away. Nothing illegal here.

I guess though, one question could be.... why?
Another question would be: If someone posts something critical of Trump but is factual, will that organization be able to retain their place or will they lose it?

If so there would be no one left to report

The reason is simple. The Association has packed the pool with leftist journalists for decades. They would not have lost this privilege if they had been fair and equal. They are only there to lift things out of context, misquote, or argue with policies they do not like. That is not the role of a reporter. My wife was a reporter and managing editor for years. She would have fired half of them for editorializing in what should be simple informational stories. Anyone honest and true will admit the press corp is blatantly and intentionally biased toward liberals and democrats and against conservatives and republicans. Why would the president or any entity knowingly allow this into their press conferences? You know what they are going to do.

The question then becomes, “why can’t the best President in the history of our nation deal with being questioned by these lefties?”

It’s a weak move.

There are too many on the right who switch off their brain and say stuff like this.
this is not true.
Thwre is a random assortment of journalists and jouranoist organizations involved.

Examples please. And I. Talking g aggregious examples that are pertinent

I know that's true because of how much specific identifiable information is in their from impartial sources.

Yarrrr....anyone honest and true.

Unless things are biased towards conservatives things seem biased against them.

Why would the president or any entity knowingly allow this into their press conferences? You know what they are going to do.
Because they aren't thin skinned weak people who can take criticism.
You think Democrat president's didn't deal with right wing idiot reporters.
Get outta here.

It’s a weak move.
Because they are not questioning, they are gathering ammunition for their next hit piece. Very often, what they report has no resemblance to what the press secretary or president actually said. They twist, misquote, editorialize, and misrepresent what was said. A story relating some WH policy should not have more of the reporter's ideas than the President's. It is dishonest and does not fulfill the role of a reporter or news agency. If they want to politicize, they should run for office. People want to know what the President thinks and says, not some 8-year J-school grad's twisted opinion about it. Opinion writing should be limited to the Opinion page, not the hard news. I don't blame the Prez. If someone continually (and it has been going on for almost a decade now) twisted and misrepresented what I said... I would not talk to them either.

THAT’S THEIR JOB!

Very often, what they report has no resemblance to what the press secretary or president actually said.
“The cure for ‘freedom of speech’ is more freedom of speech”

They twist, misquote, editorialize, and misrepresent what was said. A story relating some WH policy should not have more of the reporter's ideas than the President's.
Oh, the journalists are doing their jobs wrong? Pfft!
It is dishonest and does not fulfill the role of a reporter or news agency. If they want to politicize, they should run for office. People want to know what the President thinks and says, not some 8-year J-school grad's twisted opinion about it.
What’s really “different” now, why all of a sudden is it so important to get the “correct message” out, that the Adminstration feels compelled to take on the responsibility of finding “just the right kind” of journalistic endeavors?

Why is Trump always portrayed as “the victim”?
He’s President, but never acts the part.

False...."very often" but you don't provide a single instance.

They twist, misquote, editorialize, and misrepresent what was said.
No they don't. They would get sued if that happened. How often has that happened?
Trump just lies and it gets reported on. He lies about objective facts (a data point, like Zelenskyy only has 4% support) and his supporters STILL argue his words are "being twisted".

TDS is truly not what people think.

A story relating some WH policy should not have more of the reporter's ideas than the President's. It is dishonest and does not fulfill the role of a reporter or news agency.
Presumption without evidence.

If they want to politicize, they should run for office. People want to know what the President thinks and says, not some 8-year J-school grad's twisted opinion about it. Opinion writing should be limited to the Opinion page, not the hard news.
On this I agree 100%

I don't blame the Prez. If someone continually (and it has been going on for almost a decade now) twisted and misrepresented what I said... I would not talk to them either.
"Don't believe what they say. I never talk to them because they lie on me."
I haven't come across a human adult male who has required MORE translations from people who agree with him, than Donald Trump.

This idea that "he is always being misunderstood" is just weird.

And in poisoning the press, Trump has now made it so that there is no critique of him that his supporters would EVER have to endure. That and the fact that he is constantly telling people that he's the only one who can fix America, who can do "x" makes it seem like a social organization.

Looks like an attempt to filter out tabloidesque sensationalism in favor of actual journalism.
When did the Associated Press become a tabloid?

Not only has the AP won a bunch of Pulitzers, but it, in fact, sets the style for journalists all over the nation, if not the world.

-- A2SG, seriously doubt Trump would know "actual journalism" if it bit him in the leg....

Fox News Senior White House correspondent Jacqui Heinrich criticized the Trump administration’s Tuesday announcement it would determine which media outlets had access to President Donald Trump.

Heinrich is also a board member of the WHCA.

She tweeted onward:

Moreover - in every administration, WHCA has advocated to expand access to news events, beyond just the pool. Making an event 'open press' or 'pool only' is up to the White House. Oftentimes, administrations limit access to 'pool only' because of security or space constraints. WHCA's job in that scenario is to ensure that the pool includes representation from each constituency (radio, tv, wires, print, stills, new media) to get the news out to the fullest possible extent. Our job is to advocate for the MOST access possible.

The WH has always handled credentials (hard passes and day passes) - NOT the WHCA. There are many conservative-leaning outlets with seats, including Newsmax, Daily Caller, NYPost, Washington Examiner, FOX, WSJ, etc. WHCA has assigned seats based on coverage factors such as regular staffing from outlets - crews covering the WH every day, sending staffing for pooled events etc.

He likes softball questions that also include flattery. That takes special reporters.

White House Correspondents’ Association Cancels Plans to Feature Comedian Amber Ruffin at Annual Dinner

“The WHCA board has unanimously decided we are no longer featuring a comedic performance this year. At this consequential moment for journalism, I want to ensure the focus is not on the politics of division but entirely on awarding our colleagues for their outstanding work and providing scholarship and mentorship to the next generation of journalists,” WHCA president Eugene Daniels wrote to members in a statement.

“For the past couple of weeks, I have been planning a re-envisioning of our dinner tradition for this year,” he added.

Daniels, who is about to a launch a career as an MSNBC anchor, seemed very supportive of Ruffin just a few weeks ago. “When I began to think about what entertainer would be a perfect fit for the dinner this year, Amber was immediately at the top of my list,” he said in February, when the decision to have Ruffin host the dinner was announced.
