I'm reading The Lost History of Christianity and that seems to be the case historically as well. It seems the more the church engaged society according to societal norms the less influence it had. If the church in the East engaged Buddhists with Buddhist language, trying to be cool and fit in, it seemed to make Christ just another Buddha. Instead of preaching the Gospel and instructing the new believers to renew their minds according to a Christian worldview, church nowadays just wants to blend in with the world.
