I converted because my wife was catholic and she made me.

It was only about five years later that I started finding truths unexpectedly.

The clincher for me, which led me to become a zealous and convicted Catholic, was hearing a speech from Alex Jones, a former Pentecostal minister who converted after leading his church into a study of the worship practices of early christians. He blew me away. He had to give up almost everything to convert, but he knew it was the truth.

He started my intellectual journey that eventually lead to Scott Hahn, GK Chesterton, and Cardinal Newman.

Welcome!

Really? Ah well, by hook or by crook

Fantastic.

So how long have you been enthusiastic? And what's GK Chesterton like? I've heard he's good, but not got around to reading him yet...

Francis Beckwiths conversion story:

He was, at the time of his conversion, one of the nation’s leading Evangelical thinkers, a tenured Associate Professor of Philosophy and Church-State Studies at Baylor University in Texas.

1Co 7:14 For the unbelieving husband has been sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife has been sanctified by the husband; else, then, your children are unclean, but now they are holy.

1Co 7:16 For what do you know, wife, whether you will save the husband? Or what do you know, husband, whether you will save the wife?

Peace.

I've been a zealous Catholic for about one year, I think. It was a gradual process.

GK Chesterton is the greatest writer of the 20th century in my opinion.

He writes everything, but I love his philosophical and apologetic books.

Check out this list of Chesterton quotes, it should whet your appetite:

Hello all, I posted this story back in I believe 2003. I know this may seem confusing since I'm shown as new to the board, but I was in New Orleans during Katrina. I lost my computer and all passwords, so when I tried to get back on the board and not having the password, they added an A to my screen name from Glynnw to Glynnwa. Anyway I'm here minus all of my time on the board. If anyone knows how to correct this please let me know. I was a senior member before.
Anyway, Saint Therese's relics was visiting New Orleans, and my wife who is a craddle Catholic went to visit the relics. While there she laid a piece of paper on the case containing the relic. She brought it home and put it on my pillow, as I had been very ill. I was also a non practicing Baptist. Well the next morning the room had a strong smell of ROSES. Soon my illiness was better. We did not have any flowers blooming near the house. She explained to me about Saint Therese, and I became consumed with getting information on her. I read the Story of a Soul and read a book on her little way. Now this was about the time that the Passion movie was coming out. I saw the movie and understood the pain our Christ had endured and I thought of the pain That Saint Therese endured as she slowly smoothered from her illiness. It was at this time that I put it all toughter and understood the pain was for us. I immediately went to the Parish Prist and started my classes that summer. I became a devoted Catholic and I attend Mass every Sunday and I love communion. It gives me new live for the week. I would like too thank KIMBER1, who was becoming Catholic at the same time as me and she , helped me a lot on my journey Thank you KIMBER1....of this board.
Saint Therese has been with me many times since we first met, but the too most important encounters was during Hurricane Katrina, we had gone inland about 100 miles to our second home. The storm had turned more our way an we were being battered by 130 mph winds for over 6 hours. I stood in the front window watching the trees fall and I asked her for her help to keep everyone safe. The house was actually shaking, and at that time she placed her hand on my shoulder and told me everything would be alright. No I did not see her but I felt the weight of her hand on my shoulder. We made it alright, but did not have water or electric for over 20 days, but we made it. We did lose our home in New Orleans but we have relocated further north on a high hill. Ha....
Another time more recently was I had been very ill. I went to church anyway, and asked Saint Therese to ask the Lord for a favor. She came to me and again placed her hand on my shoulder and told me I would soon be better.
You know I only wish I had become a Catholic sooner, because I do love being a Catholic. It is my passion.

In Christ Name, Glynnwa

The Little Flower, the church nearest to my home is tended by the Carmelites. I love the carmelite saints (John of the Cross, Teresa of Avila, The Little Flower, the Blessed Elizabeth of the Trinity, Edith Stein, the Blessed Titus Brandsma, the Venerable Jaques the Jesus, the Blessed brother Lawrence, and they adopted amogn the OT prophets, Elijah as one of their Saints and of course their strong Marian devotion).
The are attracting me a lot lately.

My confirmation is in March but I've been studying since last year. I grew up in a strict Mormon family and was not finding any passion in the teachings(for me) and was encouraged by people around me to try other churches.I did. I found myself following the Catholic church. However my life is challenged, this way of worship has made a difference in my life.A candle is now on.

Please say a prayer for my RCIA sponsor-Shelly. She is in the hospital with an enlarged heart and I am many miles away from her. Thank-you.
