I'm not pentecostal, but I believe I have had an encounter with the holy spirit upon my conversion.
When I was about 10 or 11 just after attending bible camp I decided to ask for jesus to forgive my sins and become my savior. The moment after I prayed for salvation, I suddenly felt like I was hit by a bolt of lightning. It was as if God had touched me(It wasn't until years later that I actually learned about the Holy Spirit).
From that day forward it seems I was given a wider conscience. Before when I sinned, I cared not about its effect on me or other people but now if I sin, I have feelings of extreme guilt, even if I cant forsee anybody immediatly being harmed by it.
Has anybody here experienced anything like that at conversion?
Can anybody here tell me what it feels like when they receive a gift of the spirit?

Thats a great post!

You have already recieved the Holy Spirit when you were saved (which might have been what you felt) which means that you have the Holy Spirit living and dwelling in you, your life is no longer yours but His who lives in you...you have the living God within you!!

What you maybe talking about is what some call the 'baptism in the Holy Spirit', this is when you become 'empowered' by the Holy Spirit, you recieve Spiritual gifts from God and hear more clearly from God etc etc...this feels different for everyone so its hard to say...i think your passion grows for God and you get a better realisation of God and the things of God, you are able to use the gifts that are given to you...you are are more aware of the spiritual realm and are better equiped for any spiritual warefare etc etc...

Did i help any? if you have and other Q's im happy to answer them.

God bless you!

It's like my pastor put it this last week's sermon. The gifts of the spirit work in different ways! For our service we have people that do solos and stuff and last week this lady (which I won't say her name) did her thing and sang but she was dancing right after and talking loud (kinda). Pastor said that there are people when they're filled with the spirit get loud and then there are people that when the spirit is around they just sit there and just have a peace inside of them!

Which I have to say is totally awesome! But your story is a lot like mine! I mean before I used to go to church and I was considered a Christian. I tried to help the church as much as I could but I wasn't really into the religion thing. It was more because I HAD to go to church. Now I actually love going to church! I love to sing on Sundays and I actually look forward to Sunday School and the sermons (Thank god for that). I really do believe you want to do everything to serve God which includes not sinning against him.
