• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Interesting question. I can only speak for myself as a recovering control freak living with ocd.

My best understanding of this is that everyone has unwanted thoughts, many of which are unregistered at the conscious level. People with ocd seem to have a heightened awareness of these thoughts and very much feel as though the thoughts are not only meaningful, but genuinely theirs. In my situation, I become frustrated and anxious at my inability to "control" unwanted thoughts. This, in turn, makes me more anxious. However, I am not in a position to speak for any "controling" characteristics of others with ocd. I am only making an observation about myself and trying to connect it with known information about ocd to address (but not necessarily answer) your question.

I am curious if others with ocd would be willing to weigh in on this question....

Hi
Do people with OCD seem to want to control situations, and if they cant control them do they feel anxious?

Not asking to judge just trying to figure out what is related to OCD and what isnt.

Thanks
Bless you all
I really must ditto what was said above. Most everyone I've met with ocd (including myself ;) ) are some type of control freaks (as mbrob put it :) ).
It's the way we can keep things 'just right' so all is well with the world :D !

I don't know if you've heard this, but people with ocd tend to be quite intelligent. (we might as well brag about something)! We are extremely perceptive of most everything around us. It's a blessing and a curse, I guess (sorry if that's a *trigger* word for some).

I'm not saying that everyone that's controlling has ocd, though. What I am saying is that some people with ocd are quite controlling...and I'm at the top of that list. My poor hubby :sorry: !

God go with you as you search for your ocd answers.
