I just saw the movie, I really enjoyed it.

*spoilers*

I liked the part where Satan is trying to drag Constantine, but he can't do it. It shows that God is all powerful and that Satan has nothing aside from what God gives him. I thought it was neat.

I don't like how Gabriel is portrayed as some psychopath.

The only part besides the entire Gabriel thing that bugged me, was how demons and angels were intermingling in Midnight's club. I wonder if this will do good enough to constitute another in the series.

Yes, I loved how they protrayed Satan. In the white suit, all charming and casual, definatly arrogant. But the best were the feet. He can't cover them up.

They only make movies of Humans Fighting Demons, and Make God and The Angels seems Useless,heartless and Stupid.

I wonder the exact same thing. I think Hollywood really doesn't have the drive to show God in his true form. I guess its more cinematic to show evil in the spotlight, doing all the work and God as some kind of invisible, impotent force that is only referenced to but whose direct presence is never seen. In every movie I've ever seen, this is the view taken of God. There seems to be a mocking tone in movies of God and His angels. Sure, we see them in Constantine, but Gabriel isn't exactly portrayed in the best light.

Hollywood never seems to have the courage to show Good as the clearly superior and ultimately successful side that it is. Instead of showing Evil as a parasite on Good (which is what it is) we always see Evil as a sort of evenly-matched equal with Good. The only movie in recent memory I can think of where Good is shown in this way is Lord of the Rings.

It wouldn't be much of a story if god quickly showed up everytime Constantine faced opposition. The movie would go from 2 hrs to 2 min, god waves his hand and evil is removed. It's more like reality where he really doesn't interfere at all.
It was cool how they showed the angels as compassionate though, like the store worker defending the alcoholic priest. By the way, why did Constantine take the necklace away from him?

The movie is about a balance, the wager god and the devil made. They are not allowed to fly down (or up) and shift the scales in their favor. The number of demons on earth is directly proportionate to the number of angels there as well. God in heaven, Satan in hell. A battle of whose the best without getting involved.

And to agree with the above post, god coming down to join in would make the movie very short. Only way that would work is if they toned down his power, and I doubt most faithful would like that.

The necklace was a protective pendant of sorts. It's the same one (I think) that he gave to the girl and said "think of it like a bulletproof vest."

I also remember reading from Spotlight on Christian Entertainment (something like that) where they were complaining how Balthazar is portrated very slick and attractive. I thought that was a hilarious complaint. Why wouldn't the agents of Satan want to be attractive to those they want to corrupt? Or would they get more souls by showing their true forms? I don't think so.

I thought the movie was great, lots of interesting things and the subtle puns and humourous scenes were lost on everyone except my friend and myself though

Of course a demon must be shown as slick. That's how they've always been protrayed when they go into human form. It just works best that way. I'd further explain why, but my brain is just dead right now, lol.

I thought it was smart of them to portray him as good looking on the outside, and demonish on the inside. Sort of metaphoric.

And it isn't a horror movie at all. There are a few "suspenseful" scenes, but they don't usually end up with something that totally freaks you out or sends a chill down your spine though. Nothing suddenly appears out of nowhere from something tucked out of camera sight to be focused on by a character's movement (kinda like them suddenly seeing something in a mirror - there's none of that)

I thought it was a good movie. The only thing I hated was the 'working your way into heaven' part. Don't people realize that one can not gain brownie points with God. Salvation is by grace not works.

cw,go see this film and enjoy it for what it is.I don't take the story line seriously as its true hollywood but it has some depth.I may be tired of these films though and not a good critic.I'm matrixed*keanu'd out.

That was what Gabriel was saying at one point, and kind of a sub-point of the movie.

On a different note:
My favorite part had to be Constantine trying to give absolution to Balthazar, that was so funny!

Hmmm I still think it's a good movie. The cars burning in hell, gave it more of a "realistic" feeling. you know Hollywood

I think that was just cause they were supposed to be like reflections of the real world. Like if they had been in New York City, they would have seen a angelic/demonic version of NYC.

It's simply to show that (at least in the director's eyes) that heaven and hell are not different "physical locations" but are simply another "plane" in the universe. Almost a parallel universe type thing.

No one ever said heaven and hell were only reachable in L.A., that's just where Constantine lives. Besides, comeon, it had to be L.A. City of Angels? It's perfect.

I couldn't disagree more at the highlighted statement. Very few people on this earth know that the spiritual realm is very busy, far busier than this realm. Angels interfere all the time, when they are allowed. We humans can actually give permission for angels to interfere, it all has to do with prayer.

I think that in the movie, there should have been more angels in the movie, thay should have had an equal role. When I make my movie, it will have some crazy battle scenes with legions of real life demons and angels. I would want people to go home and do research to find everything to be true. I want to make people think differently, change their perspective. Can't wait.
