  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Refering of course, to the Fantasy kind.

They seem to be mind numbing and very
influential upon children to become power obsessive and hardened to human suffering and death.

Games and toys based on fantasy super heroes all involve weapons of death, and some of them incredibly painful and cruel.

Playing Cubis2 one day, the little ad before the game showed a young boy with a toy assault rifle -- one that had the actual parts, in plastic, that could be assembled and dissassembled.

What really hurt was that there was no other image or background, just the boy and his assault weapon. It
was as though the rest of the world were unimportant.

This association with weapons and the mindset of children strikes me as the most scary thing parents should watch carefully.

So how do some conservative Christians view this?

Gone are the days of "My little Pony"^_^

*On a serious note, as one who loved cartoons growing up, there is a BIG change.....
I don't know if any of you have noticed all these new japanese style cartoons..........the characters are constantly screaming at each other, throwing temper tantrums, etc......how sad!

I loved Davey and Golith growing up:thumbsup: We need more Christian artists to bring more to the cable networks, not just videos, but to the mainstream once again!

I read your post twice. My son has Batman toys that has Super Uber large Fantasy guns? I see nothing wrong with this. I see nothing wrong with GI Joe, or half the toys I Do buy my son. Balance is the Key for me.

My husband took my son who is in Boy Scouts yesterday to a Turkey Shoot (no turkeys were shot, just what it was called) They taught the boys how to handle the BB guns the proper instructions and such. there was also a Archery area with the Bow and arrow. Proper handeling is they key for me and how I raise my son. He Knows the differnece between a Super Uber plastic toy on a Batman show, or is a game, and a real gun.

:)
I can say if there is no balance, nor explanation to kids who do watch violent cartoons, and or video games, I do feel it densensitizes' a childs view on life.

I don't know about fantasy and video games, but real life guns, with proper parental guidance, will not harm a kid. My brothers grew up with guns (and me too by proxy), but they were taught a great deal of respect for them.

Who is this?

Constance - it's good to see you posting here. May it happen more often!
Thanks. I have been very busy the last few months with a new job, but after this week it will be a lot better.

I used to post in the fundamentalist forum but didn't feel comfortable there after I started pursuing licensure as a minister due to the gender controversy. Even though I don't teach or preach I get quite a bit of harassment for having the license, sometimes even after I explain why.

Anyway, so if anyone wants to know why Superman is antichrist, I'd be happy to explain. :)

I am old school in many ways; and this includes which comic book superheroes I read with great enjoyment when I was a kid, a teenager, and even long into my geeky days into my 20's and 30's.
My favorite superhero of all time is Captain America. Also, I really enjoyed reading the exploits and watching the movies and cartoon shows of everyone's favorite wall-crawler, Spider-Man. My other favorite super-heroes are all four members of The Fantastic Four, the Green Lantern, The Avengers, The Justice League of America, and The X-Men.

Many of the vigilante anti-heroe types whom are sometimes almost as fast to kill the villains in the comic stories, and in the video games, and in the movies as they are as compared to rate of killings by the villains;... well, most of those "heroes" do not appeal to me at all. Alot of those anti-heroes don't have the morals or even a sense of honor in order to be heroic type role models or characters I enjoy reading in comics, or watching in movies.

I would be interested, Constance. I have learned that the writer of Superman was non-practicing Jewish and that many of the names, inside jokes, etc. were Jewish.
