Conservatives send death threats to SC judges.

WASHINGTON (March 16) - Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg said she and former Justice Sandra Day O'Connor have been the targets of death threats from the "irrational fringe" of society, people apparently spurred by Republican criticism of the high court.

Were is the liberal "Innocent until proven guilty" whine? We don't even know who made these threats. And a few internet threats are nothing in a nation of 300 million. They happen every day. Against everyone.

Ginsberg might want to consider why there is outrage toward the court however. Americans are not very political. They don't get riled up for nothing. But over the course of the last 30 years, the animosity toward the court, toward judicial activism, toward Ginsberg and others usurping the power of legislatures has been growing. The court is supposed to be nonpolitical. It is supposed to be an umpire, not a player in the game. As Scalia said this week for the upteenth time, it is not the business of judges to make moral decisions. They are no more qualified to do so than Joe Sixpack. The issues which are causing a reaction against judges need to be hashed out, as the founders intended, at the ballot boxes and in our legislatures.

The "innocent until proven guilty" whine went out the window when conservatives began their full-scale persecution of Bill Clinton while he was in office, relentlessly pursuing one special prosecutor after another to find some pretext to get him out of office and pursue a coup d'etat.

These are the same conservatives who do everything in their power to protect a President who has repeatedly lied and broken the law whenever he sees fit.

Why does this happen? There is one standard for when Republicans control Congress and a Democratic President has been elected (and re-elected, and is one of the most popular Presidents of the second half of the 20th century); and another standard when Republicans control Congress and a Republican President has been appointed and then barely re-elected, and is one of the most unpopular Presidents since Andrew Johnson.

And by the way, Voegelin — I know about the threats via the Internet. I get them almost every day. You know what I do? I get even more vocal. Why: I just seem to thrive on criticism and threats from our weiter rechter Flügel!

I'm not sure there's anything conservative about sending someone a death threat. It seems to me that taking an action like that generally means the threatener doesn't have many deep insights into politics.
