  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm sure there are conservative Arminians here, but the forum doesn't see as much action as, say, the denomination-specific ones do.

The best way to get to these people probably would be for you to go right ahead with posting a message/appeal/question and see who responds.

In the past I looked up some history on this, and got some clarification about the early controversy between the two major proponents: John Calvin and Jacob Arminius, which helps to see the foundation principle they advocated. The general thoughts of Arminius ---to wit: "holding on or losing salvation" (works); whereas Calvin essentially held to "sealing and eternal life" by faith of the "born again" believers. Some professing Christians lean more to one or the other. Calvin lived from AD 1509 to 1564, and Arminius lived from AD 1560 to 1609 (Jacob being just four years old when John died).

It seems that some people confuse Arminius with Armenian ---the latter speaking of people living in Armenia ---not about doctrines. Interesting history.

I was Arminian, Boxed, for over 50 years, but am now Reformed. I came on here tonight looking for a discussion on the Reformed doctrines, because there is so much I do not know. I know I may be asking for the impossible, however, because I merely want to learn, not argue. Groan.

The sure way to learn the mind of God is to study His immutable "Word of Truth" and pray; and I have found the worldwide fellowship as described at Biblecounsel.net on the Internet to be the best source of Bible-only studies. One can ask questions there and learn some of what God intends for His testimony in the world, rather than religious ideas of men down through history. We need to be praying to God to not let us go astray from His pathway and His mind for man.

Yes, 1watchman. :) I do a whole lot of Bible study and praying. :) My intention is not to ask "men," however; just to hear from people, in general, who are learners. I find there are too many times when I need help. I will look into Biblecounsel.net, to see if I find it to be appropriate for me. Thank you!
