the Lord showed me something i thought was awesome, and i thought id share it with you all.

the bible says to be consecrated, all through christianity we are told to be consecrated. "consecrated unto God!"

but i dont think most people really have a handle on what that means.

the word consecration in the old testament comes from several hebrew words, but one of them simply means to be...

SET-APART.

and we all think we know what that means, but i dont think we do really.

we think we are set apart if we stop hanging around with crack-head jimmy, or stop chasing loose-Lucy.
WE GET SET-APART MIXED UP WITH SEPERATED.
BUT THEY ARENT THE SAME THINGS.

we think if we just stop SEPERATE ourselves, then we are SET APART, but thats not true.

that word CONSECRATION, means SET-APART or literally to DEDICATE.
and to be DEDICATED is more than being SEPERATED.

the thing is,
you can stop hangin around with the old friends, stop going back to the old shops on the wrong side of town, stop going back to those old things, and youve SEPERATED yourself, but that doesnt mean your SET APART.

when you DEDICATE something, your saying
"I DEDICATE THIS TO THIS..."

your saying that an object or something is laid aside and will not be used for anything else, but only for one purpose, becuase it was dedicated to that purpose.

see, we can seperate ourselves from the old people, and the old places and the old things, but it isnt enough.... if we dont DEDICATE our lives to Christ.

we should have ONE PURPOSE... ONE REASON... for living, Christ.
make all of our lives, for one new purpose, living for the Lord.

becuase people have left the old things, but they still have not really given all to the Lord.
and it shows up the consistency of your prayer life, the consistency of your daily meditation in the word, and your passion for God and the ministry of saving souls. it shows up in preachers who are ORDAINED... but dont even have a daily consistent prayer life.
THEYVE LEFT THE WORLD...BUT THEY HAVENT GIVEN THEIR ALL TO GOD!

it isnt enough to seperate yourself from things, if you dont take your life, and dedicate it completely to the cause of Christ. their is no half way! its all or nothing! your either living for the lord with all you have, or your scattering abroud!

my God... i wont to have one purpose, one reason for living... i want to be CONSECRATED!

amen.

Your post is an answer to a short prayer I made today at work...the Spirit must have used you to reach me. I told God that my prayer life was inconsistent, my obedience was inconsistent and my ability to love my neighbor was (at best) inconsistent...I told him that if I was doing as badly as this at any other aspect of my life I'd be ashamed...I was blowing it and begged that He show me in practical terms what I needed to do to overcome this spiral of ineffectiveness and mediocrity. During the drive home I was reminded of the verse from the 8th Psalm "what is man that Thou art mindful of him?" And now I read your post and I see that my only real reason for living is God (not in the "He's the king and I'm dirt" way, but in the "I'm a new creature through Him", "power made perfect in weakness" and "His love can move mountains" kind of way). So it seems to me a question of focus. On a day to day basis I must be dedicated to His service, though I may still have the same responsibilities and be doing many mundane things. But the focus of my time, of my attitude and discipline must be on dedication to His purpose for my life.

Of course, I could have just said "Amen" or "That's a great post, thanks Endure2!" But I wanted to both make clear how much your post helped me and also expose my failings in case anyone else had the same mental block as I did.

Thanks again!

thankyou all for all your kind and meaningful responses, as always all glory goes to God.

weakbuthopeful
thanks for writing back like you did,
i am very glad that what i wrote ministered to your life. that is a problem that many people have, becuase that is where the true fight for our lives is, i believe, commiting our lives to the Lord daily and be commited to daily laying at the Lord feet in prayer and fasting and meditation in his word, thats what its all about. i think thats what seperates us from the men of God we look up to. the devil knows, that he doesnt have to get to us, if he can just mess with our prayertime and time in the word well fall apart all by ourselves.

i like what peter said, he said "take heed...unto prayer" were taking heed to many many things, but the most important thing is prayer and fellowship with the Lord. were trying to become great men and women for the Lord, fullfill our callings and save souls for the Lord. but without much secret converse with God it cannot take place. i love how jude said to build yourselves up in YOUR most holy faith, by PRAYING IN THE HOLYGHOST.
im sorry im so long, but i just want to say one more thing, that word FAITH, is more than just THE FAITH OF CHRISTIANITY or THE DOCTRINE,it literally means
YOUR FAITHFULLNESS TO GOD,
YOUR FAITHFULLNESS TO CHRISTIANITY
YOUR FAITH TO DO MIRACLES,
YOUR FAITHFULNESS TO DAILY PRAYER,
YOUR FAITHFULNESS TO THE WORD OF THE LORD,
YOUR CONSTANCY TO YOUR COMMITMENTS,

it is hard to be strong, commited, faithful, have integrity all the time, becuase it begins to wear on us, to always do everything right.
but if we just stay in prayer with the holyghost, that strength will flow to us from the throne room of God.
its like, God doesnt just demand that we do all these things right, he just tells us to stay close to him in much prayer, and hell give us the strength and passion to stay faithful. hell do that for us.
were weak in the flesh, but if we can stay close to him in prayer, it puts our trust in his arm instead of ours and keeps us strong, keeps us faithful.

staying commited to prayer, literally puts up walls that keeps out the spirits of disobedience and unfaithfullness. but when we walk away from prayer, those spirits come in and we begin to fall apart.

i love what one great man once said
"No heart thrives without much secret converse with God, and nothing can make ammends for the lack of it"

i believe that if there are 2 great important needs for Christians to focus on, just 2, it would be
1. The secret place of prayer with the Lord.
2. meditation in the word of the Lord.
