  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hey,
Last night I went to a "hell house." It is like a haunted house but is used to show you what hell is like and to get you to not want to go there and get saved. Well I had been lacking in some parts of my walk with Christ so it really got to me. After you finish the "hell house" You go into a counsulors tent and a consulor talks with you and prays with you. And I can't pray when someone is telling me what to say so I said it but couldn't really mean it and now I am really confused and don't know what to do. Please pray for me.

Godsgurl, you have a right to be confused.

You say you are lacking in some parts in your walk with Christ, which leads me to believe you have been saved.  You don't need anyone telling you whether or not you are saved.  If you haven't read this thread by Gerry, please do so.

http://www.christianforums.com/threads/25619.html

I personally don't like those "Hell House" types of places.  Especially when at the last of it these ministers or whatever are basically damning you to hell if you don't pray what they tell you to.  You aren't saved because you just prayed a prayer.

I probably didn't ease your confusion any, though, but please read that post and let me know what you think.

You don't have to rededicate your life everytime someone asks you to.

That person may have just wanted to brag about how many rededications he got last night and was disappointed that he couldn't number you among them.

Rededication is for people who left Him and then returned. Have you ever walked away from your faith and then came back?

Godsgurl,
I will be praying for you. You know we all fall short of the Glory of God. We are all lacking in certain areas. But we can thank the Lord that he is able to show us those areas we need to work on, If we couldn't see the areas we need to improve on, then we wouldn't be able to work on them. If the Lord has opened your eyes to areas you need to improve on, Just thank him with all your heart and soul for doing so, then ask for his hand to guide and help you in that same area. Just because the Lord hasn't refined us completely yet, doesn't mean that we have to keep rededicating our life to him, It simply means we need to allow him to work on those areas where we most need it.

Maybe you had problems with the prayer, because you knew in your heart that you've already dedicated your life to him. The prayer was most likely intended for those that attended the hell house that weren't saved yet.

I can't pray when someone puts words in my mouth, either. It doesn't mean you're bad or wrong or anything....it just means that you need to pray in your own way, and rededicate yourself to Christ in your own way.

I'll pray for you!

Hang in there Godsgirl! If you get confused, go pick up your Bible and spend some time praying. Also, don't try to fight sin by yourself. You will fail. "For without me [Jesus] you can do nothing,"(Jn 15:5) "but you can do all things through Christ who strengthens us."(Phil 4:13) Don't give up trying but, don't try to do it by yourself! If you wanna talk feel free to IM,PM, etc me.

Hmm...rededication. It's not a feeling, it's a decision. I have a problem with the high emotion tactics that a lot of organizations use on young people for this exact reason. Walking with God is between you and God. We're pretty crummy at it sometimes. I think a lot of the troubles you have with stuff like this and maybe church too is you don't get caught up into the feeling of everything. That's ok. getting right with God isn't something you decide to do or not do based on how you feel on any given day. If you know you need to straighten some things out, work on straightening them out. Usually, when it comes to growing closer to God, it involves giving up a part of ourselves we do not want to give up even though it is getting in the way. There are parts of our life that we are content to hang on to. God is working inside you. Do what he tells you. Try to do what he tells you. Take it one day at a time. Some days are better than others.
Does that help out?

Do what you believe God is telling you to do. You won't always feel like doing that. More often than not, this is the confusion we face. We know what God is saying, but we don't want to do what he is saying.
It's tricky business. If you didn't like that person putting words in your mouth, if that messed you up, then you talk to God in your own words. Just you and Him work the deal out.

Mr. Cheese, I think you've hit the nail on the head.    In fact, I did a sermon on that topic tonight.  Emotions run high sometimes, and some people run to the altar on emotions instead of the urging of the Holy Spirit.  When the emotions wear off, and the emotional high ebbs, they are left confused, and wind up doubting their salvation.  Churches that use the emotion tactics are not helping the young people, they are making them more confused and easy pickings for Satan.

We need to help the youth through these emotional times and help them to make an informed decision instead of an emotional one.
