Where were you when you were first impressed with the "word of knowledge"? Possibly, you may be thinking that isn't possible to answer since we don't really have a clear definition of it. Well, don't go feeling too isolated with that viewpoint, as all of us have to take the vision of faith along with us on all the gifts, be it receiving or disseminating. But since lack of definition by faith (faith, another gift of the Spirit) has us wondering a bit, how do we know when we are witnessing the WOK gift and not the words of self-willed, high-minded ambition?

There are clues. In Philippians 2:3 we should give pass to "lowliness of mind" as God will also minister peace with those things said. I am convinced in saying the word of knowledge is a type of the word of prophesy used in more personal encounters, again, as God ministers either peace or strong confirmation. He is able to bring these to pass.

My own personal encounter involved AOG pews 1 and 2, right of the pulpit 1987.

Uh-oh, by unbound silence (Thanks Richard), seems I failed to connect to confirm God the Father did not minister by my post. Very well then, to those who would, ,

'What level of peace are you speaking of?' Beyond comparison of anything I could hope to experience on earth. It is a living and glorious peace packed with stability, not delirium. You know you are in the moment of being blessed.

Let's wrap this 'un-interested' post up, shall we? I invite you to press together for readiness:
How do we know when we are witnessing the WOK gift?
God ministers either peace or strong confirmation.
It is a living and glorious peace packed with stability, not delirium.
And I do mean PRESS TOGETHER. For a word of knowledge's "strong confirmation" may not just come as a rod of correction, but joyfully, just as the Lord Jesus Christ put it; "that your fruit should remain" (John 15:16). The moment of that glorious peace will also remain. I still have the peace of that very first encounter by an altar worker in the winter of '75. But I disregard this as the hierarchy at that retreat was famously hostile to the gifts, revealing the extent the Father will deliver, glory to God.

Hoping I'm allowed to reply here, I have not been to churches called "pentecostal" very much, I have been to some churches that were informally and inconsistently and in unbalanced fashion "charismatic" (unbalanced because the leadership classes and their henchpeople were often inclined to indirectly ensure the gifts went to waste). But a couple of times we had some experiments in the sense of exercises. We prayed first. I thought those were on the genuine side even though they were a bit self-conscious. The "words" or "pictures" given were not "personal" yet were witty for the recipients unbeknownst to the givers (I would mistrust something overtly "personal"). Another time we had a practical problem and I think God gave us a witty yet practical answer. All three times we had peace except that last time we had hassle from the leadership about carrying it forward (which we could only do after a change of leadership).

Interesting. Sounds as though not all that widespread there.

Generally, I understand this as someone announcing a directive that was missing God bringing confirmation as well. But if He does, I would not advise become hardened against the possibility.
